UConn v. South Florida Bulls @Rentschler Field (Saturday 10/21/23 @3:30p on CBSSN)

This is what they did last year but with cancer ribbons behind a mini husky head.

Featuring beef stew, cold beer and rain gear! Let's get it on!
Oops, just informed hot cider and Captain Morgan may be replacing some of the cold beer. ;)
Let's hope you all come again and bring a friend! Let's ROCK THE RENT !!!!!!

Cliff note to what Mora said but basically in response to the interviewer stating having Duke, BC etc on schedule going forward has to be positive and good for the program:

Recruits don't care about who we are playing.
Recruits don't care about facilities.
Recruits care about conferences which "Not being in a conference is ABSOLUTELY KILLING US"
Most of all recruits care about NIL... show them the money...if UConn doesn't have NIL money then essentially game over .. or in Mora's politically correct way of phrasing it "if we don't have NIL money then there's going to be some really tough days"

At the moment how is our future football outlook looking for non-BBall NIL $$ and Conference affiliation?

Would our recruiting be better if we were in Conference USA? Seriously doubt it.

Hypothetical question, which conference would you rather see UConn in for football only: the MAC? Or the AAC?

Neither. Indy is better as far as being a fan is concerned... it would be hard to keep interest playing in either of those. But recruits aren't fans. The only way to offset the no conference situation which Mora points to as a HUGE disadvantage that's really hurting us with getting us competitive players is to have significant NIL $$. Essentially we need to be able to significantly outspend bottom P5 and top G5 programs. I think the boneyard drive for NIL is admirable but I don't see where the significant NIL $$ is going to come from (for football). Hockey has a better chance of raising funds than football IMO. This program feels to be at a crossroads, but without a big oil $$$ life jacket.

Bball will be fine but likely in the Big12 so Yormark will have his NYC bball powerhouse anyways once Big East gets buried in nonlinear in the next TV deal. He played things brilliantly.

Anyways those worries are for the off season .... right now this program needs to think week by week and show up vs. USF. Looking forward to the game.

Def the AAC, I remember getting bullied by the Cool UConn Basketball Twitter (TM) for saying this, but schools like South Florida, Memphis & Temple are solid semi regional rivals and are institutions that align with UConn more than some of our current Midwestern catholic conference mates.

But obviously both these options stink

The better brand AAC schools are fine, the new ones are awful. It seems like the only thing short of a P4 that would be desirable is an East/West best of the rest conference. Between the AAC and MWC, there’s plenty of decent brands. Unfortunately, even if that happened, we’d be required to bring our basketball teams.

Honestly, UConn football isn’t better than either of those conferences. For scheduling purposes, an arrangement with the MAC wouldn’t be terrible along with some MWC, ACC, occasional Big10, and ”local” (UMass, FCS) teams. The indy slate we have is good, but it may be slim pickings soon.

If we can’t get a P4 invite, that’s what I’d like to see DB take the lead on organizing. And to make it work for basketball too, you have to pull some good basketball brands into it (Gonzaga, SDSU, Memphis, VCU, Wichita St, Creighton?).

Mora’s being honest about it. We won’t have the money to compete effectively (football or hoops) w/o more revenue than we’re getting now from this small school / hoops only conference & indy FB. Our fan base is nostalgic about the BE but I don’t think it’s the right fit for us long term. And not sure we can wait (& hope) that long for something better to just break our way.

Wet, windy and a bit raw for gameday weather?
