Very disappointing especially since the bats were alive at the start of the game but then nothing. One bad inning did them in.

Yeah, but what makes this stink was it was UConn's last chance to get a win against a power 4 conference regardless who it was.
But if we take care of business, we are going to get in. I see us winning the BET this year. That won’t change how sketchy the pitching has been though.

Positives. Caruso looked good even if he wasn’t feeling well. Good to get Afthim work. Peters looked good in small doses. Finn threw well.

Tomorrow could be challenging to piece it together. Got to get ready for Friday.

I’d say it was a god awful loss, but the real question isn’t how they lost. The question is how in the world with our pitching we won 13 straight.

Peters is showing progress. Bad outing from Shaw but I would rather see that in a midweek game than a Big East game, a BET game or even an NCAA game. I was actually more perturbed by the hitting after going down 13 -9. We got away from what got us here over the last 13 games and 3 innings!

Yeah, Peters is indeed showing progress. And yes, Shaw did indeed have a bad outing. Overall he has been doing pretty well of late, but a decent pitcher from time to time will have a bad game, and that certainly happened with Shaw yesterday, as he did not record an out while he was in the game yesterday. Still, I would expect him to appear in close games in the future unless he starts having bad games on a more consistent basis.

I question the rest. Friday was the most he's thrown all season. Since they are playing today, the extra day woulda helped. Pudvar has already shown to need some extra rest.

I don't get how we gave up ten runs in one inning and if part of the answer is "we had no choice due to pitching constraints", that is a serious concern.

The only positive is that it wasn't a conference game.

You understate the problem. A bad outing for a quality reliever is giving up 2 runs in, say, an inning and a third. It’s not giving up 5 straight walks or hits, ending with a grand slam, and giving up 5 earned runs without getting anyone out. That’s a horrific outing, and the problem with the pitching staff is far, far too high a ratio of horrific outings to bad ones.
