UConn v. Memphis @ J.O.C - Friday 4/7@ 3p, Saturday 4/8@ 1p & Sunday 4/9@ 11a

Nice job Dandeneau!

We are threatening once again, but someone needs to come through with a big hit. Their 3rd basemen has been tested significantly and has not had a good game.

Bottom 5th, Keith Krueger comes up with a single to drive in a run to make it 7-6 Memphis. One out, with UConn still up. Memphis just committed their 2nd error of the inning, their 4th of the game.

Bases loaded for Susi. Huge spot.

Their 3B is not going to sleep well.

Feldstein might not have come out of his funk after all. He strikes out with 2 runners in scoring position and less than 2 outs.

Gnesda works another walk (good eye) to load the bases for Toppa.

Toppa strikes out. Painful ending to an otherwise great inning, we may need those runs.

WHUS announcers have been talking about the tiny strike zone all game.

A batter gets on base due to a Lambrecht error lead off the 6th inning, but Domnarski gets the next three hitters to come up with a scoreless inning. So far UConn getting some good pitching out of the bullpen today.

We strand two more runners (both of whom got on via the single). These lack of insurance runs could be costly.

We have dominated ever since Willis was taken out and should be up by more than 1 run. Going to the 7th...

With the help of Willy Yahn and a diving defensive play, Domnarski gets another 1-2-3 inning in the 7th. After his bad start to the season that cost him his starting job, Domnarski has also been pitching much better of late. Could he see some time as a mid week starter later in April and May?

Bottom 8th, back to back doubles by Toppa and defensive replacement Winkel gets UConn an insurance run. 9-7, with UConn still at bat.

Krueger lays down a successful squeeze bunt, scoring another run. 10-7 UConn going to the top of the 9th.

Bullpen Dominates in Husky Comeback, 10-7

Notes

  • John Russell becomes the sixth UConn pitcher to record double digit saves in a season. Russell is ahead of Kevin Vance's 13 save season in 2011.
  • UConn starts conference play 5-0 for the first time since 2003.
  • The Huskies recorded a season-high 15 hits.
  • The Huskies are now 8-6 when the opponent scores first this season.
The Huskies try to grab the sweep against the Tigers on Sunday, April 9 at 11 a.m.. LHP Mason Feole makes the start for UConn on the hill.

Got up to Storrs to watch the game. Cold and windy- I felt Wills didn't have a good feel for the ball and couldn't get any breaking stuff over the plate and then Memphis sat on the fastball. The bullpen did a great job but Memphis was terrible defensively. Let's go for the sweep and go to New Orleans on a high.
