UConn v. Memphis @ J.O.C - Friday 4/7@ 3p, Saturday 4/8@ 1p & Sunday 4/9@ 11a

With a 4 run lead, Rajkowski stays in to start the 9th, and walks the first batter. @huskymedic is getting something for his stomach.

2 on nobody out calls for a walk to the corner of the man cave ;)

Rajkowski gets the next 3 batters to preserve the 6-2 Husky win, and saving Radue and Russell for the next two games of the series.

Or he can come back to school to make a run at a national championship =)

Quality performance in all phases. We outplayed a good team today. We need to win this series to wash the stain off that awful loss Wednesday.

Why the FREAK do we lose to Hartford and central San Francisco area university of the Pope during our midweek games????? Argh.

Huskies Defeat Memphis 6-2 in Series Opener

Notes
  • With the victory, the Huskies move to 4-0 in conference play this season. The last time the Huskies began conference play with four wins was back in 2012 when the team was in the Big East (WVU (3), Seton Hall).
  • John Toppa notched his second-straight multi-hit game for UConn, he now has three multi-hit efforts.
  • Zac Susi hit his second home run, drove in three and recorded three hits on Friday. Susi leads the team with 10 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games.
  • Willy Yahn (7), Zac Susi (7) and Anthony Prato (8) all extended their respective hitting streaks on Friday.

Aside from Cate, Montgomerie, or Feole, the other guys who have started rarely go more than 3 or 4 innings while allowing several runs. Also means the bullpen gets used more, with less reliable guys having to be used.

This will be a huge weakness come postseason

What it really means is that someone like Rossomando is possibly the key to a post season run. He has the stuff, he needs to figure out how to use it. UConn really needs him to make a similar leap forward with his control and composure like Montgomerie did in late April and May of last year.

Same w/ Napiarsky... can't figure out if it's a stamina issue, arm issue or head issue.

UHart has a deeper staff....?????.....

I get the sense that the coaching staff tends to recruits pitchers with potentially "wicked" stuff, instead of guys who can simply get the ball over the plate. When these guys are on, they can do very well. However, that is often not the case, and it can be some time before these pitchers can harness their control, if ever. Ryan Radue has been pretty reliable this season, but he Penders never had enough confidence to use him in tight situations before this year. At any rate, Randy Polonia was probably the perfect example of this last year, occasionally absolutely brilliant with his slider, but often simply awful with no control over his pitches.

Agree, but I really think that he can be that main midweek starter. Kid has good stuff. Has been pitching well lately. Hope he can keep it going and be that guy.
On another note, I just can't believe how Zapata has vanished. Kid had promise his Freshmen year. Would like to see Penders give him another opportunity.

I'm not surprised Zapata has vanished. I suspect that Penders had enough of his inconsistency last year, but he gave him his one last chance to either sink or swim against Santa Clara (not exactly a power house this season) during the west coast trip. Well, in that game Zapata simply drowned. I'm not surprised that Penders has not given the senior another chance. He's seen enough.
