May as well leave Cate in for as far as he can go. I'm not sure he would be able to come back in this regional to pitch anyway, given that he isn't used to relieving.
 
Have to think Cate wouldn't be brought back either of the next 2 days so you push him as far as he's comfortable going today
 
Chris Jones is talking about extending the UConn lead to get Cate out so he can come back later in the regional, but I'm not sure that would be in the cards for Cate. My idea is to extend the lead so UConn doesn't have to use Wallace or Poulin today.

Cate gets 2 more strikeouts in the bottom of the 6th, 6-3 UConn lead.
 
Chris Jones says Cate is at 50 pitches after the 6th inning, so he may not be available for the rest of the regional at this point already. However, if he gets stretched out, he may come back as a starter if UConn does end up advancing. That's according to Jones.
 
Another UConn rally brewing in the 7th, with 2 runners on and 1 out.

Cate leaves 2 runners on base in the 7th, UConn up 7-3. It wouldn't surprise me if Cate comes out after that inning.
 
Woodworth reaches on an infield single, steals 2B with 2 outs, and scores on a throwing error to make it 8-3 UConn in the top of the 8th. Love those 2 out steals.

So the announcers talked about the number of UConn road wins and the amount of travel for the “student athletes “ .

Then he said UConn “got rewarded “ for all the travel and their record. What was their reward? Getting a tournament berth? NO. They earned that.

A reward would have been hosting a regional. Their reward was going to play in a regional hosted by a team with a lower RPI that we played and beat.
