Infield single brings in a run for Hartford in the 8th, followed by UConn players throwing the ball all over the place, which brings in another run. 12-4 UConn.
Avery Santos gets a 1-2-3 inning, badly needed by the senior as he had pretty much pitched himself to the bottom of the UConn pitching barrel with his early appearances. UConn gets the 12-4 win.
I love 12-4 "ugly" wins. This win was exactly what the doctor ordered - solid starter, decent bullpen and the guys who pitched were towards the bottom of the rotation. Good offensive production. I'll give them a pass on fielding.
Love that, before the game Penders asks Coach Mac what he wants in a perfect pitching world today. Paraphrasing Mac, he said for Haus to go 5, get 2 from Mayock, 1 from Sanderson, and Santos to close it out. That certainly worked out.
Even better, I like stealing 2B with two outs. If you stay on 1B, more than likely it is going to take two singles for you to score. More likely that instead of two singles, you're going to wind up with an out in there.
