Once UConn gets D1 level on-campus facilities UConn will be able to attract D1 level players. Cavanaugh has actually done a very good job considering all the obstacles in his way.
Going from zero to one is easy (unless you're RE2.0). Going from mid-table to championship is a lot harder. The flavor of the month at AIC isn't enough for me to change horses until we have the proper level of HE facilities. We are ten years into this and some people are already spoiled by the success we have had. We play a tougher schedule than AIC and have similar level facilities in terms of front line hockey rink and practice facility. (Shenkman acknowledged).
Cav has built a great program foundation and the team is feared as a tough out even if they disappoint frequently. He has earned a chance to run with full support.
