Tough game to watch. Too many walks by UConn pitching, poor defense by outfield allowing extra bases and too many strikeouts by batters. The lone bright spot early on was Marshall. ASU looks good.

I see little hope for this being one of those years we rip off a ton of wins in a row.

Still too early but team needs to come together. Many new faces. Not easy replacing Caleb and others. Will need to rely on West, Suchy and Ollie. Aasland needs to learn from this game and avoid pitches right down the middle. I’m still hopeful.

Top 6th, after a 2 out single by Menzel, the UConn offense has a scoreless inning. 14-1 ASU.

Lord have mercy with this pitching staff early on Could be a long season and a lot of red on Joe T’s tracker
Skillets, I gave you a like because I totally agree with your statement. Not because of the lot of Red portion

It’s baseball. The individual talent is not there.

I believe over half the roster this season are players who were not with UConn last season.
Think it’s 22 new faces on a roster of 39?

Unfortunately it’s gonna take time to gel. Need to figure out who is gonna be the spark on this team. Hopefully Minick’s nerve issue in the elbow is not a season long issue.

.-.
At-larges are getting tougher and tougher to come by with big conferences so deep in talent. Just gotta be able to outrun Creighton, etc. in a non-“special” talent year. Regional/super success often about getting hot at the right time. Lots of opportunity to gel despite the negative early returns.

Also, a number of quality players from last season are no longer on the team due to graduation, transferring to other colleges, or going professional.

That was bummer #4. And to think I was excited to see the inning by inning writeup.

Can become a vicious cycle, especially in a game as mental as baseball. Frustrated coach —> nervous players —> poor play —> repeat cycle.
This is a huge test for UConn baseball and Penders. We've given up nearly 50 runs in 4:games. MacDonald has got to be frustrated - is talent just not there? Can't remember such a horrific start!

I looked up the 2004 season since it was mentioned on the ASU telecast.

ASU beat UConn 18-2, 16-5 and 18-11 to start 2004 season. UConn’s record was 26-29-1.

Last season they lost their first five games before rebounding but were denied NCAA bid.

Neither bodes well for team but too early to panic IMHO.
