UConn @ UVA Davenport Field (3/20/19 @ 4p on ACC Network Extra )

Another three up three down inning for UConn batters. Bottom 7th, Wurster still in. 3 of the next 4 hitters are lefties according to Chris Jones.

Dandeneau coming in with one out in the bottom of the 7th. Wurster threw a total of 7 pitches.

Wurster was there to get the 2 lefties. Did his job. Interesting that he didn't trust Johnson enough to try to finish the 7th. So CJ and Wally have to get 9 outs between them, hopefully without either working so hard it effects how much they can throw over the weekend. But this isn't U-Ha or Central. You have to close this game out today and worry about Houston in 48 hours.

With 2 more lefties to follow and only having thrown 7 pitches surprised with the move already.

A little trouble now with a Dandeneau walk and catchers interference putting two runners on base with 1 out.

Wurster has been unbelievably useful. Thrilled for him; I think we can consider him to be one of the reliable guys out of the pen now.

Listen to those Penders postgame interviews and the way he talks about him, there is no doubt about it.

UVA's midweek pitching has been shelled all year. If we lose today (still holding out hope that we prevail), CJ would not be the primary reason.

Better at bats that inning, but no score. Wish Fedko didn't swing at that 3-0 pitch.

Doesn't look like a good angle for replay.

uh nevermind

Bases loaded sac fly puts UVa ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the 8th.

That one hurts, hopefully we can keep it at a one run deficit. Rally cap time.

Single makes it 5-3 for Virginia.

One thing about Coach Penders is that he has always been very loathe to take out someone he considers a top tier reliever in favor of someone not on that tier when the game is still on the line. I think that kind of explains why Dandeneau stayed in to start the 8th.

I've never been happy with the idea of leaving someone in a game when they clearly don't have their stuff.

Simeone coming in now with 2 out in the 8th.

Damn. Stuck with CJ a little long. I get that he’s a reliable arm but it was clear from the first batter he faced he didn’t have it today. Would’ve rather seen Johnson or even Wallace himself (I know it was only tied but I really wanted this one) to start the eighth.

I think Penders has no problem throwing Dandeneau multiple innings in a game like this, as he has something of a rubber arm. However, with a conference weekend series coming up with only one day off in between, Wallace was not going to throw multiple innings, he was only going to pitch one inning. So it was the 9th for him or nothing.

6-3 Virginia as a run scores on a single, third out comes on Toppa throwing out a runner at home.
