UConn @ USF (Fri. 3/23 @7:00p on ADN, Sat. 3/24 @6:30p & Sun. 3/25 @1:00p)

The freshmen have laid an egg in the field today

(Edit: Actually everyone not named Toppa, Prato, Winkel and Thad)

Bottom 7th, USF picks up an unearned run from errors by Hague and Fedko. 8-4 USF. Simeone picks up 2 strikeouts that inning.

I know he has the potential and has gone deep in games before, however he does consistently struggle with command.

A lot of college pitchers struggle with their control. The good ones eventually get over it. Montgomerie is an excellent example of this.

Which could be the reason Penders has been fairly reluctant so far to remove Moriarty and Woodworth from the infield.
It’s pretty much the Aaron Hill situation but in 2 spots rather than 1

Lets hope Feole becomes a good one.

I could see Fedko continuing to get time in the infield, but I expect Moriarty or Woodworth will fill the other spot in the infield from here in. I doubt we'll see both freshmen in the infield at the same time after this, at least in conference games.

Colby Dunlop gets a 1-2-3 inning, an encouraging sign. Simeone was fine as well, he just got done in from the freshmen errors in his inning.

Why not pinch hit for Winkel?

Before this game Winkel was hitting .271 with some power and walks. He's done well, much better than last season. Who on the club do you want to pinch hit for him? It's not like he is hitting like Moriarty or Woodworth.

Susi back behind the dish
Fedko at 2B
Woolworth at 3B

A 36 man roster? I thought the roster limit was 35.

Phillips will probably continue to catch 1 game on the weekends, but as expected with the hot bat he stays in the lineup. Fedko continues to get playing time as well.

Top 2nd, UConn goes down 1-2-3 again.

Chris Jones talking about his laptop which got fried in the middle of the game last night. Because of that, he can't post the Penders postgame interview, update stats, and other things.

Top 3rd, Fedko is stranded at 2B as Huskies fail to score. No score going to bottom of 3rd.

Through 3 innings, stat line for Chase Gardner is 3 hits, 3 strikeouts, 1 pickoff, and no runs. 32 pitches thrown as well. No score going to the top of the 4th.

Gardner looking good through 4 innings, no score so far. Gardner is now at 49 pitches, and so far has shown the best control he has had in a game as a Husky.

Winkel thrown out stealing to end the top of the 5th. Wish he had stayed at 1B, since then UConn would have been through Woodworth's spot in the order to start the 6th inning. In any case, UConn offense has been pretty quiet. Scoreless game so far.

Bottom 6th, 2 outs, bases loaded. Jacob Wallace coming in from the pen.
