Top 9th, Winkel pinch running for Phillips, and will no doubt also be his defensive replacement at 1B. Phillips has 2 hits (including a double) and a walk. Thad has the hot bat.

Trouble seeing on the Facebook live but that caught stealing was close. Winkle could have had those long arms in there even though the throw was on the $$

Double Play ends it
6-4 good guys
good win but would like to more even run production
beat the best pitcher

Six-Run Second Enough For Huskies

Notes;
  • With his 11 strikeouts, Cate has 250 career strikeouts, passing Matt Barnes for second all-time in UConn history. Cate is 13 away from tying Anthony Kay (263).
  • The Huskies are currently riding a season-high four game win streak. The Huskies have won seven of its last eight contests against the Bulls.
  • Tim Cate moves to 3-0 all-time vs. USF in 26 innings he has struck out 42 in four starts.
  • Thad Phillip is in the midst of a four-game hit streak. During the streak Phillips is 7-16 with two doubles, one home run and four RBI's.
  • Anthony Prato totaled a career-high four RBIs with his grand slam in the second. It is Prato's second career home run and first since February 19, 2017 vs. UMass Lowell in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
  • Isaac Feldstein led the Huskies in 2017 with seven home runs. The Palo Alto, Calif. Native has already equaled his total in 17 games this season.
  • The Huskies have outscored opponents 27-3 in the second inning this year.

Big win, but Holmes is terrifying. We have only 2 truly reliable relievers - maybe Ronnie can be the third.

Possibly Dandeneau as well. However, CJ hasn't pitched since the Coastal Carolina game, so you have to wonder what is going on there.

d1baseball Friday night game roundup includes the UConn-South Florida matchup:

D1 Digest, Friday March 23 | D1Baseball.com

>>3- – Big win for UConn
Husky leadoff man Anthony Prato set the tone early in their 6-4 win at South Florida, by crushing a second inning grand slam as part of a six-run frame. Even more impressive, they did it all against All American Shane McClanahan, who hadn’t allowed a run all-season until Friday night. Giving a pitcher like Tim Cate that kind of lead was more than enough for UConn as Cate pitched more like himself this week, pitching just five innings, but collecting 11 strikeouts and giving up just a single earned run to pick up the W. The Huskies are now 11-7 as the Bulls fall to 16-7.<<

The pitcher USF is throwing tonight dominated us last year. Time for some payback!

So Cate is only 13 away from tying Anthony Kay for the all time UConn career strikeout record. If he stays healthy, by the end of the season he could be the UConn strikeout leader by a really healthy margin.

Not surprised they took CMo out and are giving someone else a chance. His defense is important and will probably be seen if it's a close game late, but his lack of hitting this season is too much to justify leaving him in for the first three times through the order.

A batting average of .132 is likely to put you on the bench. Woodworth is hitting .177, and he finds himself on the bench as well, for the second straight game. Interesting that this is done during a conference series, instead of a midweek game.

I guess USF decided not to Facebook Live the game. Nice job getting out of a crunch.

Bottom 1st, Feole gets out of a bases loaded situation with the help of a diving catch by Toppa to get the last out. No score going to the top of the second.

Top 2nd, Fedko double drives in Stefanski to make it 1-0 for UConn. 1 out for the Huskies.
