Checked the weather for Tampa, and it looks like beautiful Florida weather with little chance of rain for all three days. This weather should have Chris Jones well thawed out from his frozen experience of broadcasting the game at Central Connecticut last Tuesday.

Cate and McClanahan will be one heck of a high-test matchup.

I think McClanahan is the first lefty starter UConn has faced all season. In this case , they are going right to the top of the class with McClanahan, who could be the overall top pick in the upcoming draft.

With the expected return of Zac Susi to his catching spot, this would also be a good time to keep Thad Phillips and his hot right handed bat in the lineup. I half expect him to replace lefty swinging Chris Winkel at 1B against McClanahan.

UConn has a big problem at the bottom of the batting order that has not gone unnoticed. The focus has been on Conor Moriarty and the horrible slump that has taken his season batting average below 150. The problem is twofold, as Mike Woodworth is also hitting well under the fabled Mendoza Line. It’s tough to have two hitters like this in any lineup. The problem gets compounded as these two are both UConn’s best defensive options at 3B and 2B. If this non hitting continues, I would expect Christian Fedko to get more starts in the infield, especially since he could soon be losing some of his Dan Hurley time to Phillips. It becomes a pick your poison type of thing, less than stellar defense versus a lack of offensive production. At the very least I would hope that we should start seeing more pinch hitting at the bottom of the order when UConn is behind in a game and with Moriarty and/or Woodworth coming up.

The cameras in this game are awful. How do you show the pitcher throwing without the batter in frame?

UConn goes down in order in the top of the 1st. South Florida's McClanahan threw about 18 pitches that inning.

Fedko single drives in Phillips who had doubled. 2-0 UConn in the top of the 2nd with the Huskies still up.

Pretty good considering McClanahan hadn't allowed an earned run all season before tonight.

Tim Cate strands 2 runners while coming up with 3 more strikeouts in the bottom of the 2nd.

Good thing they had that outburst in the second. With all the K’s Cate is racking up he may not get too deep into the game

Maybe it's just me, but watching Cate here in the 4th it seems as if he is feeling something in his shoulder. Seems to keep stretching it and doesn't seem right to me.

USF gets a run off of Cate in the bottom of the 4th. 6-1 UConn, Cate up to 82 pitches.
