Watching this team for the first time last night. This team has a lot of depth in the offense. Sphur and Delena haven't gotten going yet and the team is still putting up good offensive numbers which could be even better. Getting guys on base just need to get them in. If the pitching comes around, limits the walks and gives us what we believe they can, this team should be very dangerous come May.

Id like to see Rispoli leadoff and move Shpur to 9th until he gets going.

I posted a message earlier in the season about Shpur should be moved out of the leadoff spot until he gets his offense going. So far this season Shpur has an on base percentage of .256. UConn has a number of players who have on base percentages well over .300, so in my mind there are a bunch of guys who could take over the leadoff spot for now.

haven't liked his ab's most of the year. A ton of swing and miss and all his contact is on the ground. Haven't seen a hard hit ball since Puerto Rico

The common thread in the last 2 games is minimal mistakes and good pitching. Keep it up Huskies!

Okay…

I have been waiting for Shpur to move out of the leadoff spot as well. If he starts to produce offensively, he may end up in the leadoff spot again.

Rispoli has been doing well when he gets playing time. The funny thing is that he has pretty much replaced Maddix Dalena in the lineup. Dalena has started the season in a pretty good slump, pretty much the same as last season.

Going to be having dinner pretty soon, so that will be a short break for me from doing these inning by inning posts.

Gotchu

Rispoli leads off with a 6 pitch walk, and Minick follows it up with a double down the left field line. Daniels proceeds to smack an RBI single down the right field line. 2-0 UConn in the 1st.

Macarthur "grounds out" after taking a very low 3-1 pitch below the knees for a strike. 1 out, 1 on.

An atrocious throw on an attempted steal leads to Daniels coming all the way home. 3-0 UConn. Padilla pops out, and Biller strikes out. Going to the bottom of the first after a productive inning vs. their best pitcher, who threw 25 pitches.

Top 1st, Rispoli leads off with a walk, Minick follows with a double. Daniels follows with a double to drive in 2 runs with no outs. 2-0 UConn.

Bottom 1st:

Cooke gives up a double to the leadoff batter. Fastball is sitting 91-93 (same as the Hurricane pitcher).

A groundout moves the leadoff to third. 1 out.

A soft single through the left side brings in a run. 3-1 UConn.

A first pitch popout gives Cooke his 2nd out.

A nasty slider for strike 3 ends the inning. Let's have some more good at bats.

Dougherty lines out to right for out #1. Good contact.

Next two hitters go down quietly. A little disappointing after a great first inning. Still 3-1 UConn going to the bottom of the 2nd.

Love a first inning crooked number.
