Bottom 8th, Brendan O'Donnell takes the mound to start the inning.

Since we haven't seen Sullivan, could he be the Wednesday starter? Unless there will be a Jimmy Wang sighting!

Bottom 8th, O'Donnell gets a strikeout, then gives up a single. Sullivan coming in to pitch. I had the suspicion Sullivan would be the closer tonight, as I doubt Willis is available after throwing 47 pitches on Saturday.

Hit and run single, followed by a sac fly gives the Tritons an 8-7 lead. Donlan throws out a base stealer to end the inning.

Chris Jones has been very complementary this weekend about the way UC San Diego plays baseball. Says they have a lot of grit to them, among other things.

Wouldn't mind seeing Bush get a couple of games off as he has been striking out at a high clip the last few weeks.

Coach Penders likes what he sees with the pitching, but the hitting has gone a bit backwards. Too many big swings, they seem to have fallen in love with the home run, with all the big swings, strikeouts and fly outs. Penders says UConn is not a home run team, and they need to get back to the basics.

Oddly enough, I was thinking the same thing about the hitting after the game and was about to post something basically saying that.

I would be very surprised if Jimmy Wang got the start. In the preseason pitching interview, Wang wasn't even mentioned, which in my mind gives you an idea of where he stands.

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if Hector Alejandro gets the Wednesday start, basically the beginning of another staff day. Alejandro has not pitched badly this season, his worst outing is definitely his last start at Long Beach. Anyway, I would expect Ian Cooke to be a part of this staff day assuming it is a close game.

Tough day at Triton Park but big props to the team and Coach Penders for showing toughness and grit today coming back from behind several times (just a bit short) and a great west coast trip!

Enjoyed chatting with Zach Bushling's father, and thanks Austin Peterson, Korey Morton (for a future Senator) and Matt Donlan (his home run ball) for the autographs. Good Luck on the Road to Omaha, and U-C-O-N-N UCONN UCONN UCONN!!! (I'll post photos when I get back from my west coast swing)
