UConn @ Tulane (Thurs. 5/16 @ 7:30p ET, Fri. 5/17 @ 7:30p ET & Sat. 5/18 @ 2p ET)

Johnson gets two outs to end the bottom of the 3rd. 5-1 Tulane.

Chris Jones saying that Karl Johnson during fall ball was being groomed to be a starter, and possibly the Sunday starter, but was never consistent enough to be given the actual task. Have to imagine that Johnson being a starter is a possibility next season.

There have been many options at D.H. besides Gozzo, so that is one factor. For instance, Pat Winkel often is at D.H. when he is healthy and not catching. The other factor is that Gozzo seems to do better at the bat with spot starts and coming off the bench. When he gets in the lineup for a few days in a row his bat seems to start disappearing. Next season Gozzo won't have to share backup catcher duty with Thad Phillips, He'll probably still be coming off the bench, but that should get him a little more playing time.

This is spooky. Chris Jones just came up with the same observation on Paul Gozzo, that his bat starts to tail off when he is in the lineup for more than a couple of days.

Top 4th, UConn bats go down 1-2-3.

Either you are both observant or Chris carefully reads the 300+ post threads posted on the boneyard. Wouldn't surprise me if it's both.

Out of town scoreboard:
USF - WSU tied at 3 T8
Memphis 10 - ECU 7 T9
UH-UCF later today
UC - Xav later today

UConn bats have been rather quiet. Karl Johnson back to the mound to start the bottom of the 5th.

Wichita State up 7-3 heading to B9. USF’s post season on the ropes.

Avery Santos coming in after Karl gives up lead-off solo shot to Sal Gozzo and walks the next batter. 6-1 Tulane.

Santos get the first out then gives up a two run shot. 8-1.

Out of inning w/o further noise.

Step away for a little bit and things get ugly. Not as if it were pretty before, I guess.

Santos still on the mound to start the bottom of the 7th.

Bottom 7th, scoreless inning for Santos who does come up with two strikeouts. 8-1 Tulane.

Top 8th, a lead off Chiovitti double followed by a Toppa single brings in a run for UConn. 8-2 Tulane.

Bottom 8th, 8-3 Tulane. Jimmy Wang comes in to pitch.

Now I'm guessing Dunlop starts on Tuesday, but we'll have to see on that one. The Tuesday starter is pretty much a mystery at this point.

Bottom 8th, 8-3 Tulane. Jimmy Wang comes in to pitch.

They bring in Jimmy to “get him right” and he has to face Hoese in his last @ bat @ Tulane’s field?

Coaxes a high fly ball out of him. Nice job Jimmy!

Bottom 8th, a scoreless inning as Jimmy Wang strands runners on the corners. 8-3 Tulane.

Chris Jones complaining about Christian Fedko not running out an infield pop up with runners on 1B and 2B with no out. Seems to me that the infield fly rule would have been in effect with that play, so Fedko would have been out regardless.

Langer one out double drives in a run. 8-4 Tulane with one out and two runners on base.
