UConn trading card thread

Ripped my 10 boxes from Panini direct and have to say I'm underwhelmed. No Paige or Strong autos, best auto probably either Fudd or Calhoun.
QC You're also terrible for any non-chrome cards. Yikes

You got Lobo/Bird/Fudd/Calhoun autos and you’re disappointed?

I mean sure a Paige auto would be great but I feel like there are quite a few names I’d be less excited to see than the ones you got.

My 2 hobbies are expected tomorrow, really hoping it comes early before I leave town, I’d be thrilled with a Jimmy C!

Yeah, after thinking about it it wasn't that bad at all. Also got 2x Karabans, 2x Solos, 2 Cams, 2x TNews too. The QC was a big bummer though.

If it was me, I'd strongly consider cashing it in around the draft to take advantage of the pump he'll get for going #1 (even though everyone knows already he'll go #1). Sadly college cards rarely appreciate like their pro counterparts, so I'd jump at the chance to cash in on him (especially a black label) to fund future card purchases. Plus, who wants a gross Duke player in their collection anyways? LOL

Thanks for the input - much appreciated. I won't get to Austin for awhile so will hold off on any more grading until I have a bunch that could go black label. For Flagg I wonder if it's worth cashing in draft time, or waiting for year 1.
 
Got my hobby box today. Got Karaban and Shade autos. Other than that, pulled an Azzi Fudd camo, Strong prizm, and a Rip Hamilton prizm /199. Not bad. I did pull a sweet Paige dual patch auto /75 in a Bowman Best U hobby box last week, so I can't complain.
 
I've ripped all but 4 boxes now. Think I'm just gonna open those too (I hate selling boxes knowing I might be letting a sweet card walk away). Still no Paige auto after 26 boxes but still some nice pulls. Got some pretty cool non-auto parallels too. Even got 2 autos of Souleymane Diaby. LOL and the double Mahaney auto box certainly was :confused:

I nabbed them when they were $100/box. Now most places are selling boxes for $200. There are also cheaper blaster boxes for $30-35, but they don't guarantee any autographs and also fewer parallel cards.

  • base set contenders - complete 1-35; legendary contenders just need #42
  • autographs - Aiden, Andre, Allie x2, Caroline, Cam, Solo, Chris Smith!!!, Qadence, Isaiah
  • legendary contenders refractors: Ray Allen, Paige Bueckers #85/99
  • Student orientation - Azzi pink refactor, Sarah Strong pink refractor
  • Blue Thunder - Hassan Diara
  • base red parallel - Azzi
  • fireworks pink - Paige
  • prizm pink - AK, Solo
  • Fearless - Breanna
  • School colors refractor - Donyell
  • Student Orientation parallel - Sarah Strong
  • Campus Legends - Geno!
  • Panini Instant - Paige # 1 of 3383 (yeah 1 of 3833!!!!)
  • Base set parallels - Paige #141/199, Sarah Strong #37/99

Happy to trade that extra Allie signature - no way would I trade the Geno Campus Legends, nor the Cam or Chris Smith autos. Forget the 1 of 3833 Paige Buckets. But can trade also base set, contenders, and all other subsets as I have a some doubles.

Overall, pretty good haul.
 
Ripped my 2 hobby’s with my kids, didn’t pick my wish of autos but I am not disappointed. Ended up with 2 Chris Smith autos, Azzi, and DT who I am pretty jazzed to get. Also a Rip Hamilton /10 and the Azzi blue Thunder which is simply gorgeous. Wish I had a lot more disposable income to throw in the gutter but fun times

Nice! The Thunder is a case hit so getting one out of 2 boxes is beating the odds. I got a Reed Thunder card. Also a Karaban Profiles card, which is supposed to be a case hit too.

Great stuff all around, definitely jealous of some of your pulls!

Quick note on that Instant card: Panini Instant is a bit different in that they indicate the total production run of the card but aren’t individually serialized (i.e. every copy of the card says it is 1 of 3833). Not trying to yuck your yum, just wanted you to know what you have. Still a very cool card!

Just saw a massive Reddit post where someone posted the hits from I think 2 cases… the Hurley card is pretty fantastic, I initially thought there was no Hurley but it seems like no autos at least. I guess he doesn’t have time for that nonsense

I saw someone post the Paige 1/1 gold vinyl prizm (non-auto) which is probably the chase card of the set aside from her 1/1 auto (which I believe is also in the set). Also several cards that have popped up that weren't on the checklist, including the "Trophy Hunting" cards, the "Legendary" Hurley and Geno cards, along with this guy which I pulled and didn't even know what it was at first. Lol

Wow - that's highly non-standard, even for Panini serialized cards. But appreciate the head's up on that bc that is a first for me.

Not sure about that one as it's Pinnacle. But I do know there are variations on that and you got a cool pull if you got that for sure.

Panini not having a full checklist is maddening. Like, I know every player has an autograph has 2 versions of their auto card (like I have 2 Azzi Fudd autos #'d to 99, but 1 is her in a road jersey and the other is her in home white) but I don't know if 1 of them is rarer than the other.

I also got 4 Karaban autos #'d to 199 in his road jersey, but 1 in home white...but unnumbered. So is the white a harder pull since I only got 1 or was it bizarre luck I got 4 of the 199s and the unnumbered white is actually more common? :confused:

Also, is Souleymane Diaby the first walk-on to get an autograph card in a set? Not walk-on turned scholarship player, but a true walk-on. Regardless, I have 2 of his autographs now. Lol

Panini's UConn NIL is a base set of Contenders 1-35 plus 15 more Legendary contenders 36-50. All the other minis are either Panini or their Prizm line with the Prizm's being slightly higher value. The 4 AK signatures is a 1st world problem for sure, but check if the numbered ones have a panini saying on them, or has some refractor to them. I mean I got more numbered ones then I first realized, but not for Cam or Chris Smith so "slightly" bummed.

But between blaster and hobby there are like 35 different types of alternates to base, auto, and each sub-set. The hobby boxes have some information but not a full checklist.

I have 9 more hobby boxes in the way so will post my signatures and other great cards and see who is up for swaps.

  • Paige Bueckers
  • Ray Allen
  • Sue Bird
  • Tina Charles
I have pretty much everyone else not listed above (unless there are other players with autos I don't know about)

Hope you can hit a Color blast or On Campus card because haven't seen either of those in the wild yet.
