UConn @ Top 15 ECU (Thur. 4/18 @6:30p, *Sat. 4/20 Double Header> Game 2 starting @ 9a followed by Game 3*)

Chris Jones thanks anyone still listening. I'm crazy, that still includes me.

It’s “nice” when you can potentially get a doubleheader in during a 0700-1500 weekend shift (results notwithstanding)

We have solid bats at the top of the lineup, but it really drops off quickly after Christian Fedko's spot. Offense really gets in trouble if the top bats slump a little, as the bottom of the order doesn't generally make up for it. Between that and not having weekend starting pitching that is not nearly as strong in other recent seasons, it is the two big problems on this team. Kersten is not going to get any better. As for Jimmy Wang, we have to hope with his youth and inexperience that he grows as his career goes along.

My only issue with Jimmy is the lack of length he gives us. He has certainly been solid.

I wish we had this bullpen in the Springer era :(

Pat Winkel comes up with a double to drive in 2 runs in the 6th. 6-4 ECU.

One thing with Wang and the weekday starters, Penders has been very quick to go use his deep bullpen rather than give them a chance to go longer in games. With the deep bullpen I can understand why, but I think you are better served having Wang and Dunlop getting used to going deeper into games, especially on those days when they are pitching well.

Winkel swings at a fastball that bounces off the plate. My goodness.

Jake Wallace in to pitch the bottom of the 8th. Hasn't pitched in over a week.

Wallace throws a bunt attempt away, run scores for ECU. No out, runner on 2B. 7-4 for the Pirates.

Easy play at 3rd for Wallace on the bunt and we can't even make that play. Welp, just chalk this up to a bad weekend and move on I suppose. Hopefully it will be a gut check for them and they can rebound.
Everyone have a great Easter.

Huskies strand 2 runners in the 8th. 6-4 ECU.

Had to execute here. As you said, story of the series...

I honestly do not know how we can beat this team outside of an incredible Feole performance, but baseball is weird.

Kyler has potential, but tough for the lineup to produce runs with sub .200 hitters in the bottom of the lineup.
I will take Kyler over the pain of watching Aaron Hill bat about .200 over four years. Kyler should be better as he progresses.

ECU goes out west and gets swept by #1 UCLA (close games). They clearly weren’t going to have a let down weekend this weekend. Our games in Greenville were close until this Wallace inning (and arguably winnable if we had any semblance of an offense after Friday).

His brother Christian took a great leap forward this season, hopefully Kyler will do the same his sophomore season.
