UConn to the B10?????

I agee that it comes down to that but not as simply as you imply. It would be more than just one year - and then at the point being a success and sustaining and being part of the AAC - I don't think it will be realistic enough for what the B1G is looking for. IMO we just won't be able to generate enough revenue for them to take us.

I don't think it'll be based on past revenue, but what is possible at UCONN in the future. If we prove we can rate in the NY market (as we already do with basketball), it should be good. The B1G brought Rutgers in because they thought it would help them capture NYC (and because of AAU). When they find out it doesn't really, they'll look to add. UCONN also would grab them a good slice of Boston. BC just does not rate.

But you are right, within a year is too much to expect. The guy in the interview is nuts.

I hoep you're right. I would love first-and-formost to be in the B1G. I would love it absoultely!!!

Just a question for you and any other. Why wouldn't the B1G take Syracuse instead?

If the B1G were going to poach the ACC, they'd go after a far better football school than Cuse. I guess you are talking about prior to going to the ACC?

What does Syracuse offer market wise? They don't even have the biggest city in their own state wrapped up. Their football has really fallen off and is starting to be comparable to UCONN's. Their basketball is OK. Academically (in terms of research etc), they are middle of the road.

It is an assumption that the B1G is only interested in "great" football schools. They have plenty of football already on hand to carry forward the football banner. What they want is TV sets and interesting programming to carry the winter and spring viewership and ratings. After January that means basketball, hockey, wrestling, etc. what they want are schools and programs that will help drive that programming.

Syracuse is blocking us? I thought they wanted us? You got a link for them blocking us? I know of BC. I thought Syracuse would welcome us.
The local athletic departments(Rutgers, BC, Syracuse) who are now in a more advantageous position than we are would like nothing better than seeing us dry up and blow away like some autumn leaf on the lawn.

Yeah. We would have to meet the high standard set by Rutgers.

This thread....

I've never really spent time on the WBB board but this thread is sort of mind blowing... I can't believe this is the same Boneyard

1. I despise any "UConn to B1G" post titles that do not have an official announcement from Delany
2. AAC > B1G because of the WBB schedule????:eek::eek:
3. The above poster (2) did not get crucified????

Good thing Fishy was here to dump some water on this and bring some semblance of the CR board.
Dose of reality from Essex County Abe....I'm a bit surprised myself Afroabe as I'm in W.Caldwell you're neighbor !!

Whats standard's have to do with anything? RU was vetted and found to bring more value than any school not named ND or Texas...sour grapes? Ever hear of the NYC/NJ market? NJ alone is HUGE!

Remember if RU is not B1G UConn is not even a consideration as now UConn IS contiguenous or connected which seems like AAU to be a requirement....where's the love?

There not a research oriented state U and the B1G already has what they need in NY/NJ what will a small private do for a state u dominated B1G? Right..nothing! But UConn is a flagship state u in between 2 huge markets(NYC/NJ-Boston) and part of the NYC market in FF county!!

Proud New Jersey guy? Good. But I think UCONN has a better NY draw on television and at MSG. Both our basketball programs are better and our football is not that far behind (think we've beaten Rutgers lately) Plus we haven't had the recent embarrassments Rutgers has.
At this point, I think most people would agree the B1G wishes they could have a do-over.

You're WAY off base on RU Duncan Idaho....they want UConn in the B1G.

Do over? Its over..RU is B1G and if not UConn is not even a consideration..RU has long relationships developed there unlike..Do yourself a favor and read you're own BY CR board and educate yourself then get back to me!!

David76...didn't mean to come off arrogant or anything but really look into it a while then tell me what you think? Its all about markets and relationships!!Im hoping you guys join the B1G party!

RU is in. UCONN is not. You are right. I'm almost 16. I'm glad you want UCONN in the B1G. Did you watch the video at the beginning of this thread that the conversation is based on?

No I'll admit I didnt Dave...so I was right? You really are that young? Or just sarcasm? No biggie but if you look I edited that out?

Read the comprehensive CR board and you'll realize it go's way beyond even just winning. This thread was joked about by national and local posters for being so uninformed on CR! Not WBB fault but not the place for intelligent CR conversation Dave! Remember too in WBB RU hired the 1st paid HC and are traditionally pretty darn good...no joke bloke!!

Sarcasm. Retort to your response. I graduated UCONN in 76. But we are good. Take care Nicky

Our basketball should continue to be good but I really wish we were in a P-5 conference like you guys. I'm more often on the Men'sBB forum. You "liked" my much earlier post in this thread about why a power conference is so important.I'm not naive about conferences.
I was just responding to someone's post about the high standards we would need to reach to get in the B1G. I was making my point at Rutgers expense. Didn't know actual Rutgers fans were actually around. Sorry if I offended.

I have absolutely NO DOUBT UConn will be P5 within 1 or 2 years...believe me it happens quick!! Like a bolt from the sky...why...you're in almost as good a market as RU AND you guys win! I would'nt be surprised if talks were going on as we speak!! No way UConn is less than P5 schools with worse track records and markets!! WF? SU? BC? L'ville? But no UConn? Even the biggest skeptic's know thats wrong!!

.-.
I fear we would all be dead if we did hold our breath for it. While I think UConn is making all the right moves to become an enticing "product" to one of the power conferences, I don't think they are quite there yet.
Not quite there yet? I'm pretty sure UConn has been a member of a power conference before...

But for those of us (as in myself) who are moving to within 15 miles from Ann Arbor later this year, it would be wonderfully sweet. Not to mention that Lansing isn't that far away, either.

Plus living in an area where the Big Ten tv network is aired!

Rats, just writing this put me into fantasy land for a moment, thinking that the invite will really come.

Awesome!

AFM, my ideal situation would be for UConn to go to the ACC AND to have us move back to Hotlanta. ;) (I left Atlanta just in time to miss Maya Moore's homecoming game. UGH.)

Not sure I get the neighbor reference? I live in the mid-west. Actually, I guess it's all B1G country (NJ-Nebraska).

i SUSPECT there might be some news before the fall football season............UCONN has all the pieces in place, Facilities, The Rent needs to expany by 25K, Great practice facilities for fotball and Basketball.......UCONN is the biggest TV power in the east.........

I thought it was you that was from the Caldwell,NJ area in a few of you're posts referencing NJ essex cty HS kids in recruiting and when UConn hired HCBD I got a comment about "your" local ties to my old neighborhood? Actually now I'm in the Albany,NY Capital District myself but mom,my sister still live in W.Caldwell,NJ!! I grew up in Belleville/Nutley as a youth but lived in NYC,Conn and NY upstate since "78"!!

Hmm I'm not much of a recruiting poster, maybe there is another Abe on the BY? Anyway I moved from Storrs to Ann Arbor after graduation a few years back.
