UConn to the B10?????

Ok I do agree with a few of those teams, PSU MD Neb, not sure about the others compared to Memphis, USF, Temple, I think UConn would beat them just like they do the teams in the AAC as long as they keep recruiting like they do,
Well UCONN is gonna beat everyone, so that really doesn't factor into if the teams in the B1G or AAC are better.

But it's pretty much a stone cold fact that UCONN would get a lot better games in the B1G. Let's put it this way, USF (without Rutgers and Louisville since they are leaving) were/are the next best team after UCONN. USF lost to Maryland and went 1-2 against Rutgers last year. And as you said the jury is out on Rutgers. So if UCONN moved to the B1G they would get at least 4-8 (not sure if they play everyone twice) better games than they will in the AAC.

Sorry, I don't believe it, and won't until the ink is dry on an agreement. I'd love to see it happen (anything to get out of the AAC), just like many other BYers, but this Simpson show consists of two local guys speculating about something that could happen, or maybe won't.

Agree 100%. Speculation with no facts - nothing more.

Why would UConn want to be in the B1G, the women's basketball in the B1G is not much better than the AAC, they have maybe 3/4 teams PSU,Neb,Maryland,Rutgers and the two latter teams the jury will be out in them next season, I would want UConn to stay in the AAC and try to build that conference up,

Secondly UConn would have to give up its tv contract with SNY because all media will run through the B1G network, just something to think about
Well the $39 Million increase in annual TV revenue that we'd get might take the sting out of that just a bit.

No way this is happening in 6 weeks. Two weeks have passed since the broadcast, does anyone really think something is happening in the next 4 weeks? Maybe in 6 mos. a yr, 2 yrs. etc. It isn't happening this month. Don't get me wrong, I'd be ecstatic if it does. If it doesn't happen soon we will eventually in effect be in sort of a 1AA status when the Power 5 secede.

Not saying it will happen, but a week ago if someone told you they thought the Rockcats would leave New Britain and move to Hartford most people wouldn't believe it. Yet within about 48 hours the rumor broke and then the press conference to announce the move. Not even the mayor of New Britain knew about it. So, it is possible. .. but IMHO not likely.

That would be sweet. And suck at the same time. Do you have any idea how hard it is to see UConn and Michigan play each other?

OTOH, I live 45 minutes from Iowa City so I'd actually get to see some live games. Woot!

I have family in Iowa City - love Prairie Lights bookstore there. Are you towards Des Moines, or towards Moline?

No they wouldn't. First of all SNY doesn't control media rights now, and does not even broadcast all of the UConn games. They covered about half of UConn's 40 games this year, and 2/3 of the regular season games. They get whatever's left over after the national sports networks (like one of the ESPNs, CBS Sports, etc.) take their pick of the games they want. This arrangement was one of the unfortunate byproducts of joining the AAC and granting them control of media rights. As far as the B1G network, using the only sport that actually matters in all of this, football, the B1G network only gets 3 of each team's 12 regular season CFB games. Now there may come a point where it's not worth it for SNY, but there's no way to know that. They could be feeling that way right now after getting blindsided by the whole AAC deal.

Yawn! This again?

Let me know when Jim Delany steps to the microphone and announces UConn is
joining the conference.

With the additions of Rutgers and Maryland, add in Penn State, Purdue, Nebraska, Michigan State, Iowa and with Ohio State having seemingly a very bright future under McGuff, I think you're looking at potentially a very strong league. Probably not going to be on par with the ACC by any means, but it's far better than the AAC.

Ohio State has had a history of pretty good women's basketball teams though they might be in a two year lull. The B1G has a lot to offer and we wouldn't have to worry about monies again for a very long time. We'd be among the elite in men's basketball and women's basketball and I have no doubt our football program would benefit with more quality recruiting. I'm not sure it'll ever happen but why wouldn't we love it????

It's not just the money. People chase money more than they should. And while sports has done a lot for our academics at UCONN, it hasn't made tuition cheaper or reduced the tax burden needed to run the place.
BUT, this is a survival story. It is very likely that the teams in the P-5 conference will share, not only greater revenue, but the major tournaments, championships, publicity , etc. and teams that are left out. The NCAA could be meaningless or the part of the NCAA that is not the Power-5 will be meaningless. Either scenario, UCONN, right now, is out.
I want to be in.

OhioSt will be top 20, if not top 10, soon. Michigan on the rise. Mich St, Purdue usually decent, and definitely better than anything in the AAC.

The Ohio State will be a good team by February. They have a good freshman class plus Holland from Duke, and Cooper from Georgetown. Beach returns from a knee injury (?).

I'm along the Mississippi River between Davenport and Burlington. :) We debated living either in Davenport or Iowa City but in the end, decided to stay closer to where my husband is working. Iowa City is great but we made the right choice. ;)

This thread....

I've never really spent time on the WBB board but this thread is sort of mind blowing... I can't believe this is the same Boneyard

1. I despise any "UConn to B1G" post titles that do not have an official announcement from Delany
2. AAC > B1G because of the WBB schedule????:eek::eek:
3. The above poster (2) did not get crucified????

Good thing Fishy was here to dump some water on this and bring some semblance of the CR board.

But for those of us (as in myself) who are moving to within 15 miles from Ann Arbor later this year, it would be wonderfully sweet. Not to mention that Lansing isn't that far away, either.

Plus living in an area where the Big Ten tv network is aired!

Rats, just writing this put me into fantasy land for a moment, thinking that the invite will really come.

Much less crucifixion on the WBB forum but I like that.

The poster is a visitor, and he has good info on HS players and recruiting, so he was cut some slack. :)

It won't happen for us with the B1G. B1G will never take little UCONN. Our shot is the ACC.

Then we're dead. BC and Syracuse have made their opposition to UConn known and will work to get their conference-mates to consider/accept anyone else.

If the money (prospects) is right, the B1G will gladly take UCONN. It simply comes down to putting a winning football team on the field and getting enough butts in the seats. AAU membership will help too.

Syracuse is blocking us? I thought they wanted us? You got a link for them blocking us? I know of BC. I thought Syracuse would welcome us.

I agee that it comes down to that but not as simply as you imply. It would be more than just one year - and then at the point being a success and sustaining and being part of the AAC - I don't think it will be realistic enough for what the B1G is looking for. IMO we just won't be able to generate enough revenue for them to take us.

I think it is Miami that has a big black ball next to UConn's name, not Syracuse. But, they both have orange as one of their colors.
