Take 2 out of 3! This is our first of three trips to Texas (UH, Sam Houston State). I wonder if we will recruit down there?

Definitely appears that you have to pay to watch the video feed of the games.

I'm guessing that if all goes as planned that Mason Feole will end up starting on Fridays next weekend against Michigan State. Aside from having your best pitcher throw the series opener, I like the contrast that Feole on Friday, Kersten on Saturday, and Simeone on Sunday provides. The pitch to contact guy sandwiched in between to strikeout pitchers. I always liked contrasting pitching styles in each spot in the rotation, as it doesn't allow opposing hitters to settle down into the same hitting routine from one day to the next.

Interesting tidbit from the write up for the Texas State series on the UConn athletics website:

Huskies Face Texas State For First Time - University of Connecticut Athletics

>Developing Arms... The Huskies pitching staff has had a tough start to the season with a 5.90 ERA but the staff is extremely young. Out of pitcher's that have taken the mound this season, 9 of the 13 have less than two years experience in Division I ranks.<

The four UConn pitchers with at least two years of experience in Division 1 are Mason Feole, CJ Dandeneau, Jacob Wallace, and Chase Gardner (who spent his freshman season at the University of San Francisco before transferring to the JUCO ranks). There is no question that UConn needs some of this young talent (which includes JUCO Kenny Haus) to emerge as reliable performers for UConn to make some noise not only in the regular season but in the post season as well. It is also very important for next season, as UConn’s best pitchers (Feole, Kersten, Wallace, and Dandeneau) will all be gone from the roster. I’m reasonably optimistic that some of these pitchers will become useful, but that is hardly a guarantee.

If I were to guess who will emerge from the fray, I would pick Simeone and Wang. Hopefully someone like Dunlop or Santos comes along, too.

Simeone has the swing-and-miss stuff that I'm not sure the other new faces have.

The thing about Santos is that the coaching staff stuck with him through his Tommy John surgery. Like Simeone and his hip surgery, these guys are now getting healthy enough to contribute. Let's hope they do.

Top 1st, a 2 out Toppa walk, a single by Pat Winkel and an rbi double by Christian Fedko makes it 1-0 UConn. Nice two out rally.

This pitcher shut out Rice last week. Nice to see us jump on him, letting him know lightning will not strike twice.

Top 2nd, Kyler Fedko and Langer at the bottom of the order both draw walks, but do not come around to score. 1-0 UConn. Seems that the Huskies started drawing a lot more walks during the Coastal Carolina tournament, and are continuing to do so at least for tonight.

Good start but gotta start taking advantage of these scoring chances. 1 run won't be enough tonight
