Men UConn Summer Baseball 2024

Norwich is the No. 1 seed in the Futures League playoffs. Hector Alejandro is the starting pitcher in the 1st playoff game for Norwich in their home game against Vermont tonight.

Vermont got 5 runs off of Alejandro who was giving up solid hits, but he was not helped by his fielders. Norwich has 1 error, but could have been called for a few more.

Interesting interview. Suspect that Garbowski will probably be the 1st string catcher with UConn next season. Expect Connor Lane will be in the running to be the backup catcher, but we'll see what happens, especially with his ability to play multiple positions.

Of course, you can pretty much say the same things about Gabriel Tirado, another UConn recruit who plays catcher and other positions as well.

In addition, on Sunday there is a potential 2 games in Norwich.

UConn pitchers Hector Alejandro and Gio Conte have done well for Norwich this summer season.

Hector Alejandro is the starting pitcher for Norwich in the 1st game today.

Norwich won the game and are the Futures League Champs. Alejandro did okay through the 1st 5 innings giving up 1 run, but gave up 3 more in the 6th inning before coming out of the game after losing the lead.

-> LHP Gabe Van Emon (Connecticut/2024) is an older pitcher at 23 years old, but he’s a performer and deserves a mention. Van Emon struck out 64 in 59.2 IP as a Division III transfer for UConn’s super regional team this spring, then earned Cape League all-star honors, finishing 2-0, 2.65 with a 22-6 K-BB in 17 IP. A high-effort lefty reliever, Van Emon stands out for his moxie and feel to pitch, with the ability to move his 89-91 mph fastball in and out. His 78-82 mph slider has good sharp tilt, and his low-80s changeup has good sink and deception when he finishes it. <-

So thankful my son had the opportunity to be around Coach Baylock this summer, even though he’ll be an SHU Pirate. ;)

Loved this article on the recap of UConn players on playing in summer ball. A nice summary that is for sure. About half the current UConn fall ball roster was involved in playing summer ball.
