Meh... Huskies strand runners on 1 & 2 with nothing to show from it.. 3-3 going to the 6th
 
Bottom 7, still 3-3. WMU still throwing their star reliever...if they lose this game they are almost certainly going 0-3 this tournament.
 
3-3 to the top 8... WMU's D (sounded like, from the radio call) made a few nice plays to keep UConn off the base path.

WMU with a runner on 1st and 1 out in the top 8, and their HR hitter coming to the plate
 
Ugh, a 2 out error on Prato (through the legs) on what should have been the 3rd out of the inning gives up a run. WMU up 4-3 with 2 outs and runners on 1 & 2 in the T8. No bueno. I think they said it is Prato's 4th error of the season.
 
Radue strikes out the next batter. 4-3 WMU going to B8. Come on Huskies....

That was a disappointing game. Personally I thought we should have swept this weekend relatively easily even without Yahn and Cate. I figured the offense would struggle throughout the year due to the amount of departures last year but I just don't understand the inconsistencies to this point.
 
Toppa off to a slow start. I imagine once the affects of the injury wear off he will hopefully return to form.

The UMass-Lowell series may have given us some false hope re. how quickly the freshmen would be able to adjust to collegiate pitching. Moriarty in particular showed some great flashes, but that pace was definitely not sustainable. Unfortunately due to the Yahn and Toppa injuries, we are having to count on the freshmen to produce even more than they normally would.

I kept my expectations in check after that series because it was the first series Lowell played as a D1 program. It's simple stuff that doesn't make sense to me like Winkle not running out a ground ball that I would bet is unacceptable in a HS program as prestigious as Amity. Also outside of our 2,3 and 4 hitters we hit a mere .170. It looked like we'd be a small ball team but I haven't seen much of that up to this point.
 
I've been waiting for Sam Nepiarsky to return to the form he showed in 2015. I never got the idea that he ever was a flamethrower that year, but from what I recall, he would come into a game and throw strikes and show very good control. The best way to describe him that year was that he was as efficient a pitcher as you were going to see. We haven't seen that since from him. In 3+ innings today Nepiarsky threw 71 pitches. That's not efficient, and the pitches he threw certainly were not all strikes. Nepiarsky needs to regain his control in order to regain his form. On the plus side with the pitching, the bullpen trio of Rajkowski, Radue, and Dandeneau were very good today.

According to my wife who listened to the game (I was at work), Chris Jones on WHUS suggested that Winkel may have thought the ball was foul. Hopefully Winkel won't make that mistake again.
