UConn @ Stetson Invitational ~ WMU 3/3@1p, Stetson 3/4@7p & St. Joe's 3/5 @ 11a in Deland Fla.

Husky offense comes to life in the 4th inning, highlighted by a Feldstein double and a Gnesda single both driving in runs. Huskies up 3-2 and are still up.

UConn leaves a couple of runners on base to leave the lead at 3-2. Montgomerie has already thrown 70 pitches to start the bottom of the 4th.

Easy inning 1-2-3 for Montgomerie in the 4th, who has now thrown 80 pitches.

Montgomerie gets out of a little trouble in the 5th, now has 11 strikeouts and 100 pitches. UConn still up 3-2 going into the top of the 6th.

Montgomerie strikes out the side in the 6th. He has 14 strikeouts now, a career high after setting career high of 13 last week.

Good lord. Wills has been pitching like a man possessed. 27k's in his last 12 1/3 IP

UConn picks up two runs in the top of the 7th for a 5-2 lead. CJ Dandeneau coming in to pitch.

Dandeneau gets a strikeout, then gives up a walk. John Russell coming in from the bullpen.

9th inning, Kenny Bergmann pinch hits for Toppa, and drives in a run with his first hit as a Husky. Winkel then lays down a safety squeeze to get another run in, with Winkel reaching base. Krueger comes up with an rbi single. Another run scores on an error (Stetson fielding has been on the shoddy side tonight). 9-3 UConn lead with Russell staying on to pitch the bottom of the 9th.

Russell strikes out the side, giving him 5 strikeouts on his relief stint. Russell gets the save, and UConn wins 9-3. UConn pitchers had 2o strikeouts on the night.

Good performance, now we need to smash a terrible St. Joseph's pitching staff tomorrow.

Lowell creamed Notre Dame today and has generally hit the ball well all year. They are probably at least as good as Stetson, and definitely better than WMU and St. Joes.

Coach Penders says that the 20 strikeouts by UConn pitchers tonight ties a team record held by Charles Nagy. Nice!

Krueger makes an error on a pop fly to allow a baserunner on (it is apparently windy but c'mon...) but we pull a double play immediately afterwards.

Chris Jones says Krueger slipped, which allowed the ball to fall in. It was ruled a hit. Anyway, Feole also allows a walk but gets out of the bottom of the 1st pretty easily.

2nd and 3rd with one out and we don't score vs. Cy Vanderslice and his 16.50 ERA.

It took the team time to get rolling yesterday but these stranded runners are getting frustrating.

Bottom of the 2nd, Feole allows a double but gets the rest of the side easily. Two strikeouts for Feole that inning, he now has three for the game.
