While we wait for Thursday's exciting game against Tennessee, here are six interesting stats from the 23 games so far.

1. The only two players to start all 23 games were not on the team last season. Sarah Strong and Kaitlyn Chen are the only Huskies to start every game. Ashlyn and Jana have played in every game, but only started 12 and 11 respectively.

2. UConn has 257 steals in just 23 games. That is 11.2 per game. Opponents have only 115 steals, less than half the Huskies total. Sarah leads the team with 53 & Paige is 2nd with 42. KK and Ash have 39 each.

3. The Huskies have an even 500 assists so far this season, on 743 baskets. That comes out to 21.7 per game. That is the highest average in the last 7 years. Paige leads with 88 assists, Kaitlyn has 86 and Sarah 82.

4. Ash Shade is the most accurate 3 point shooter at this point in the season. She is 36 for 81 or 44.4%. Three other players are in the 40's for accuracy. Azzi is at 42.5%, Paige comes in at 42.1% and Morgan is at 40%. (Sarah is at 37.3%)

5. UConn is 21-0 when opponents score less than 70 points. ND scored 79 and USC scored 72.

6. UConn has scored 453 points in the last 5 games. That is an average of 90.6 points per game.

Thursday's game is at 6:30 pm on ESPN.

Before the season ends Uconn stats will be even better. The team is coalescing now as the last 5 games show how well they are playing together. We are not quite there yet, but REAL CLOSE to NC game play. I have the highest hopes. GO HUSKIES!!!!!

I will go out on a limb. Like Ive done before. LOL If UConn can handle the Tenn press it will be a blowout. I keep repeating myself when I say we have the best shooting team in WCBB. I expect UConn to win by double digits.

That # 5 "interesting" stat: I paused a bit when I realized that
my "prognostication" had the Lady Vols with 70 points! Then again,
a sigh of relief when I saw that I had the UCONN with 78! This
should be a game to remember... I DO remember the highlights of
Paige at the end of another memorable game at Tenn.... "GREAT SHOT, PAIGE!"
GO HUSKIES!!

I dont think many fans realize how good this UConn team is right now. May I say they're getting better each game. We are underrated imo. We will prove it at Tenn and SC. We've got the shooters and in these two games they will prove it.

I agree unless Tennessee is incredible from three which they have done.

They have three #1 overall recruits on this team, they should be good. My concern is how weak the conference the play in is this year. After UConn it is hard to find an above average team and that could hurt them when the competition gets better. But they have played pretty good ball against the teams in front of them.

Tennessee and South Carolina will show the UConn fans what they really have this year. Like many I am very confident they are a top team but what I want to know is are they able to play with any team out there. ND is really the only game that wasn't particularly close from what I saw and I think Azzi not being in that game was a big deal because of how she defends and the position she plays.

What I expect in the two big games is Paige to show why she really is the best player in college basketball and Azzi and Sarah to shine as well. Jana and KC to me are both unproven against good teams and they will have to show what they have in those games for UConn to come out on top. I do expect to see a lot of Ice, Morgan and especially Ash in the big games. It is getting fun!!

Tony, I think you are right, but let's temper this with the realization that we are looking at the BE.

indeed, that's the way it is. we (fans) would be happier if we had all our games facing top 20 teams. Likely we would lose more, but the games would be more fun to watch and there would be far less BY kvetching to the tune of 'uconn really doesn't measure up to the better competition' to come.

fandom -- it's sometimes delusional. the huskies, assuredly, cause at least as much trepidation (and often far more) for their opponents as they do for us. play the games and if the norm prevails, uconn will do fine.

I agree. You will know right away how the game is going to go.

Wow!

What's funny about stat #6 is when Geno changed the game plan by making both the offensive and defensive game plans simpler. He admitted that it was not meshing and got rid of a lot of plays.

Then we must also look at that easy as pie TN season prior to the SEC. It is where they garnered all their wins, three point shooting accolades, and "tough" press assessments. They haven't been able to duplicate any of those numbers or successes against actual competitive teams.

Under Massey ratings UConn's offense is #7 and defense #2, while TN offense is #2 and defense is #61.

UConn's losses are to #6 ND and #7 USC, while TN is to #15 OK, #5 LSU, #29 Vandy and #1 SC.

UConn's wins against teams rated in the Top 50 by Massey is #14 NC, #24 Miss, #31 Lou, #36 Iowa St and #27 Creighton. While TN's #21 FL St, #22 Iowa, #47 Richmond and #37 Miss St.

I think they were able to duplicate some of it against SC, at least for stretches in the 1st quarter and the 4th. Maybe not the brilliant 3pt shooting but the press. They got 10 steals and forced 17 TOs, which doesn't happen to SC much. What they weren't able to do was sustain it for 40 mins, and Caldwell has talked about this in press conferences.

These 6 stats are what give me confidence that they won't be able to duplicate it against UConn, especially #2-4. Sure, they may be a paper tiger. But UConn sure isn't.

The only stats that count should be when UConn plays quality opponents. Throw out the inflated numbers in the other games. TN is actually a step up in play over most big east teams so UConn needs to take it up a notch. Hopefully this also gets UConn ready to take it up 2 or 3 notches after that against SC. Things will not come easy against these teams. This will be how we gage UConn heading into the tournament.

This team is hard to get a read on, because the competition is so weak. You almost have to take the stats with a grain of salt, because of the competition and the core players are playing less than 30 minutes a game.
