UConn St John's rivalry

Again, Georgetown is Cuse's rival. UConn doesn't have a true rival, their "rival" is the other best program for that given time.

If you think UConn playing Syracuse right now would have more juice and be a bigger rivalry game than UConn playing St. John's right now you're out of your mind.
GTown may be Cuse’s rival by a lot of definitions, but I wonder …
  • who has been mentioned more/has more threads on syracusefan.com over the last 30 years, UConn or GTown? I’d bet us.
  • whose fans and coach do they hate more?
  • who do they root against harder?
  • how frequently does Cuse come up in the BY for no apparent reason?

I kinda think our rivalry with Cuse is laying latent, and could rise like a Phoenix if/when they stop sucking and we play a few times. I’d look forward to that.

And then losing to a #10 seed…..but I’m sure they will be getting their National Championship trophy case all ready to display it.
UConn has spoiled you beyond belief as a basketball fan. It's incredibly hard to win a national championship. UConn had three goals this past season, St. John's accomplished two of those goals. UConn didn't accomplish any of their three goals. It wasn't a total failure for UConn, they still had a solid season but St. John's had a much better season.

UConn is St John’s rival/measuring stick while St John’s is not UConn’s rival. UConn’s rivals are other blue bloods..Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, UNC..etc. The only reason anyone cares about St John’s is that they are an NYC based school. They are nothing more than a cute stumbling block on the way to the regular season and conference tournament championships.

Is anyone really saying St Johns didn't have a better season than us? That would be pretty stupid. Clearly they did. I think people just like to point out that after all the chest thumping by their fans and Pitino(after their first good season in like 25 years), they ended up losing in the same round as us and to a much lesser opponent by a lot more points. Yeah their team Repole bought for next year looks good on paper but their fans are already out over their skis talking about domination before a game is even played. They may be awesome again. Probably will be, but just because they were last year, it doesn't mean it's an automatic for next year. We thought our team was going to be awesome this past year and that did not materialize.

Never said they didn’t have a good season as Marquette did 2 years ago so what? The reason we are a blue blood and St. John’s is not? Clue. It’s not BE championships we won. It’s the number 6 which is ultimately how programs are judged. If we win the BE this season and then flame out in the round of 32 how many people here will smile and say “but we had a great season”? Uh no. It’s a shame that it is like that but that is just reality.

Sure. They had a better season than we did. Not by a ton. And, most importantly, after 2 years where we won 2 national championships and put 7 guys in the NBA including the NBA's DPOY and ROY.

Then they wet their pants in the 2nd rd. Congrats?

Ahhh.......to St. Johns I say "win a natty, just one, and we'll talk. Until then......"

As long as Repole breathes, SJU will be a player in the BE. He has near limitless funds.
He's not paying all that money for another 2nd round flameout. The pressure is on Rick to do better this season.

Hell, I'll set the bar a lot lower. Make it to the sweet sixteen, then talk.

I don't know what Repole's current position on this is but at some point he's going to want a return on his investment.

Supposedly this is the last year of this NIL system so this coming season may be the last chance he has to make such an impact.

He's worth 1.6 billion. He sold Vitamin Water to Coca Cola for 4.1b and BodyArmor energy drink to Coca Cola for 5.6b. He refers to himself as "Mike from Queens" and he's in the St John's game for fun as a fan like Steve Cohen with the Mets. He buys million dollar race horses like you and I buy coffees from Dunkin Donuts.

The topic was this past year not the previous two years(I'm aware of our resume) and yes they did have a better year than us. Wish they didn't. If saying "not by a ton" keeps you warm at night so be it. I basically said the same thing about their 2nd round flameout. So....have a nice day?

Is being seated as a two and getting taken out by a 10 seed better than losing to the eventual national champion by a bucket?

I understand the topic and you can't just cut out whatever little section you want. If that's what you want to do? Then fine. Big deal. No one cares about the regular season title. If anything, it accentuates you wetting your pants in the NCAA's.

I'm literally yawning right now thinking about this.

No. I was responding to Superjohns post about the whole entire season.

Winning the Big East regular season and winning the Big East tournament is a lot better than what UConn accomplished. They finished 4 games ahead of us in the Big East and curb stomped everyone in the Big East tournament.

Some of you guys are acting like Cuse fans, print up those we lost to Florida by 2 points t-shirts.

SJ defends and pumps up Pitino and the Johnnies every chance he gets. Maybe they are related.
At this point beating our team is their Mount Rushmore. Maybe they’ll even play a decent OOC this year but they didn’t last year. But I certainly do not wish them success in the league or beyond.

So all our Big East regular season and Big East tourney titles are worthless? Got it. You agreed St Johns had a better entire year and you agreed with me they crapped the bed in the tourney which I clearly stated both of those in my original post. Double check. Maybe you should go back and read again. Have a nice day!

Who said St. John's is a blueblood?
