Lions Host No. 25-Ranked UConn in Weekend Series - Southeastern Louisiana University

(Times below are CT):

Friday at 6 p.m., the Lions will send senior right-hander Josh Green (1-0, 3.60) to the mound opposite UConn junior left-hander Tim Cate (0-1, 6.35). One of the top pro prospects in the Southland Conference according to both Baseball America and D1Baseball, Green opposes one of the top lefty pro prospects in the nation.

Junior right-hander Corey Gaconi (0-0, 4.15) gets the starting nod Saturday at 2 p.m. versus Huskie sophomore lefty Mason Feole (1-0, 1.29).

Sunday Lion junior righty Mason Knopp (0-0, 4.50) opposes UConn junior southpaw Chase Gardner (0-0, 10.38) at 12 p.m.

Thunderstorms are in the forecast Friday through Sunday, so there could be shifting game times to look out for throughout the weekend.

The weather will make Game 1 extremely important.

With a doubleheader now scheduled for tomorrow, I started thinking about Isaac Feldstein coming off a knee injury and knee surgery from last year. The question is, will he play both games in RF, or will he be the Dan Hurley in one of the games? If he is the Dan Hurley in one of the games, we could see Ben Maycock in RF, or we could have Mike Woodworth move to the outfield for that game. We'll see what happens.

As mentioned in the lineup tweet, Matt Bonvicini gets the start at Dan Hurley tonight. The coaches had very positive things to say about his hitting in the preseason interviews. Over the course of last weekend's games, Chris Jones said more than once that the coaches think of him as a Bobby Melley type hitter. One gets the feeling that at least early on in the season that the Dan Hurley spot will be rotated among several players.

Prato with a 2 out single...let's go Susi.

10 pitch at bat for Prato results in his single. Susi follows up with another single, then a passed ball moves the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Feldstein lines out to close out the top of the first.

Bottom 1st, SELA gets a two double to drive in a runner who had walked to lead off the game. Cate definitely struggling with control.

Cate finally gets a ground out to end the bottom of the 1st inning at 1-0. That inning sounded like a Wills Montgomerie 1st inning from last year.

I’m not sure why the batters are swinging at the first pitch after seeing the zone last half inning

1-2-3 inning for UConn in the top of the 2nd. Chris Jones not happy with the strike zone either.

I’ve heard Chris say “just missed” more in these first 2 innings than I heard him say all of last year.

Gonna be a struggle with the home plate ump. Nice 2nd inning for Cate though.

Cate gets out of the bottom of the 2nd with no runs off him. So far 3 walks, 2 strikeouts, 49 pitches for him.
