UConn recruiting class- three 5 stars

This Hurley GOAT stuff still cracks me up. He's had two consecutive championship seasons with an otherwise unspectacular tournament record. Did he ever get past the first round before 2023?

Do I think he's capable of continued success at UConn, absolutely. HOF - yes, absolutely. JC level success, yep.

But get back to me in ten years with this goat talk.
The word "otherwise" is doing a lot of work here

Correct. His wiki page has his tournament record as 14-4. The 14 is seven wins in '23 and seven wins in '24. If this is correct, he never won a tournament game until '23.

Yikes, you should probably learn how many games it takes to win the tournament before you decide to post in a thread about an otherwise lack of success in the tournament.

.-.
I hate to brag about our 5 stars because I have always hated Duke for stockpiling and reloading them every year. But that said they have usually been doing it with many top 10 five stars.
It’s great we have guys with the chops but most importantly players who will take to the coaching and do whatever it takes to win rather than pad stats.
It’s just a great thing to know we will be in the top tier of teams mix going forward every year. I dont take that for granted.

Yikes! Otherwise lack of success in the tournament isn't debatable, it's a fact.

Two wins with four losses outside of '23 and '24, along with not qualifying for the tournament more often than not, isn't even close to GOAT level coaching.

Donovan won back to back and had far more success than Hurley at this point in his career. Anyone here consider him as GOAT?

As Donyell and RIP are also missing, I'm thinking the starting point must be around 2000 or so.
Correct - 2003 commit is the earliest shown in their top 25. That's Charlie Villanueva.

I suspect it's due to this:

Changes nothing. Two wins with four losses outside of '23 and '24, along with not qualifying for the tournament more often than not isn't even close to GOAT level coaching.
Why are we doing this after a night when Auriemmia became the GOAT and literally had a goat there?!?!?

At least you learned he's won tournament games outside of the past two seasons and you learned how many games it takes to win the tournament.

As Geno said it's an entirely different sport. He can lay claim to best women's college basketball coach ever.

New generation GOAT is fair for now. Certainly not in overall GOAT conversation. 3 peat does put him firmly in it though.

NCAA says otherwise. Most college basketball wins of all time, different sport or not.

You just can't pull off sarcasm, especially when your argument is stupid. Adding two wins to Hurley's record changes nothing as far as the GOAT argument is concerned.

Can we outlaw the words 3 Peat here or at least make it a fine? It’s destructive Mojo.

Sarcasm? My argument?

Keep digging.

New generation GOAT is some pretty silly cherrypicking. I agree if the clock starts with the portal, nobody is even close to Hurley. If he quit today, nobody will be adding Hurley to any GOAT discussions. That's pretty much my point.

If he stays at UConn for another ten years, I have zero doubt he'll be considered a top ~5 coach of all time.

Calhoun, Coach K, Wooden, Hurley, and a tie for 5th between a few coaches I can't remember (Probably two or three well ahead of Hurley at this point).

Anyone who adds Calipari to the list will be laughed out of the discussion.

I was being generous. Your argument is just plain dumb. I've admitted many times that I know very little about basketball, so I tend to rely on facts.

Well this thread went into the dumpster fast.

Hurley is not the "Greatest of All Time" at anything. Probably not even "being a basketball coach as a member of the Hurley family". He's the GOTLTY men's college coach. The greatest of the last two years.

Geno is the GOAT women's college basketball coach.

Calhoun is also not the GOAT. He was incredible, a hall of fame coach. I think that's enough.

I also know there is no person "ignored" by more registered users, than you. I peaked at four.
I made no Hurley is the greatest of all-time or new greatest of all-time argument. I used no sarcasm. You came into the thread to laugh at someone calling him the next generation GOAT. You then asked if Hurley has ever won a tournament game outside of the two national championships. You looked up his win total in NCAA tournaments and then said he's never won another NCAA tournament game outside of his two national championships. All I did was point out that you dunked on yourself.

We all know you know nothing about basketball and you're showing off you don't know what facts are either.

Congrats on your ignore count, remarkable achievement.

You are choosing to die on a hill about two wins over ~15 year, but agree about my Hurley/GOAT position. That pretty much defines 'silly argument.' It's one step dumber than grammar police.

Again I made no argument about GOAT, New GOAT.

I just pointed out the fact that Hurley has won tournament games outside of his back to back.

You said you tend to rely on facts.

You should really stop before you make a fool of yourself. Donovan was 35 and 20 at Marshall with no tournament appearances.

This has been fun. I'll let you have the last word.

Cherry picked facts apparently using only one data point as a criteria. Your methodology is deeply flawed.

You'd have a point if your reply actually made sense.
