I agree with that. He was never able to sell the program and compete head to head for the true blue chips, who may or may not have been overrated. But he did recruit well enough to land his dream job.

He was a terrible recruiter (closing is a part of recruiting). He was a good evaluator and good at coaching up underappreciated talent. However, he rarely got the player who had multiple Div. 1A offers in hand.
 
With Belichick, Nick Caserio, Scott O'Brien (Special Teams), Jon Robinson (scout) and Chris Simms (coaching assistant) all in attendance, great showing for the Pats at our Pro Day. Belichick and Caserio are the two big ones in that "front office", so great to see. Especially considering USC, LSU, USC east and SMU are holding pro days today.

We're getting side tracked. The point is to not bicker over Edsall.

It's more of a jab at some of our local beat writers who are acting as if the the program is bereft of talent and that Edsall left the cupboard empty for the two chumps, P and D.

To that end, Coach Pasqualoni cannot (or at least does not) coach up players like his predessessor could. Pasqualoni's bar on talent is set higher, because it has to be. He cannot put his players in position, they have to intuitively know, if you understand my meaning.

I suspect that our next coach will actually have to deal with circumstances that John Silver and Desmond Conner have concocted.

Pasqualoni and DeLeone have definitely done their part to set back the program's progress.

I can see the patriots loving this crop of seniors. Guys with enough physical skills to start in the NFL, but mostly are where they are because of their work ethic and football intelligence. Plus they will be great value picks in the 2nd and third rounds. If any fall to the 4th, than they could be steals.

I know. It was a friendly jab about our differences of opion on other Edsall qualities we disagreed on. Would have put a smiley face if I knew how to from my phone.

What a BS statement. Coach P first recruiting class will be red shirt freshmen. How can you say he can't coach up players like Randy E. Who knows he maybe twice as good as Randy was. Jury is still out. Way too early to determine.

I can say that Coach Pasqualoni cannot coach up player like his predecessor because he didn't pretty simple. Also, not everyone redshirted. Coach Pasqualoni has sophomores and at least one junior to his recruiting credit. He may do well this year with "his players," but that does not negate the fact that he has gone 10-14 with the same level of talent that went to a BCS game the year before. Though I cannot obviously prove it, Coach Pasqualoni probably is not coaching in Glandale on New Years day in 2011.
 
Those players with further aspirations did not stop getting coached up when Edsall left. They were continuely coached up throughout their UConn carreers. They would not be in the postion they find themselves in if that was the case.

As much as posters here like to bitch about the state of our program, to read the quotes of our Pro day players you can feel the pride that they have in the program and UConn football. I go to the games to support these players and the effort they have put into this. Being underdogs for the forseeable future means we will have tough kids who don't back down. Silver is correct that Nick Williams did not bench due to injury, but he submitted tape of his 22 reps performed during training.
