UConn opens as 33 point underdog at Utah State in Week 0

That's a fair spread.

I said before we will know what success looks like when we see it. Utah State is a very quality opponent and this is a first year staff and we have a ton of player turnover.

That being said. Its the first week and weird things happen.

Central isn't close to HC or Yale and UMass is at home this year and hopefully most of the coaching staff won't have covid that day. That's 2 wins. Getting another win on that schedule is likely. They played 9 post-season teams last year (counting Holy Cross.. and i believe they all won at least 1 bowl/post season game)... that won't happen this year. The non-post season teams were Yale (win), UMass (coaching staff has covid, depleted roster) and Vandy (BS Pass Interference call). They'll get 3 this year.

Totally wrong. Mora is a defensive coach who will make adjustments with Spanos. The big key is our personal. Hopefully we have some quality depth.
 
I believe USU’s following game is @ Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Let’s start them off 0-2 shall we?

There’s some on this board last yr saying that as soon as Spanos became interim he had no role in the defense that it was all on horton

I’m not so sure, since we have a new HC with a DB/DC pedigree. With Edsall gone I think we might see more safety/DB blitzing.

Honest question? How many UConn coaches caught passes just standing on the sidelines over the last ten years?
 
Can the offense with most likely a new QB come out of the gate able to put points on the board throughout the game? That will be the biggest factor in determining if we can cover IMO. Sustain some drives and we can make it tight game. Have to have a functional passing game to do this. Coaches catching passes on the sidelines- could be a long day.
 
To paraphrase Chevy Chase in Vacation, I think anyone who thinks we lose by that much is forked in the head.

(New coaches + a lot of new players) * a new attitude = a new outcome (wins)

Just having a semblance of competency on offense would go a long way toward beating that number.

In this housing market? Absolutely not. I don't even own a home because I'm still repairing my credit from getting laid off in 2016 and getting absolutely hosed by my student loans. Hopefully soon though. Trying to get me one of those tiny homes to live in. I don't want a big house. Just enough for me and a dog and some land for a detached 2 car garage.
 
If anything, I would in-game live bet this based on what the first 1-2 offense/defense possessions looked like.

My betting hope (not UConn fan hope!) would be for us to fall behind 10-0 or 14-0 but to look potentially competent. Line will go up live…jump on it!

I would guess that Utah St may be more apt to rest starters a bit more with a 20+ pt lead with Alabama looming as their next game.

Um....yeah...I doubt you will get a lot of support on here from UConn fans hoping they get down a couple scores quickly so you can win potentially win some money....lol.

That would be why i put the qualifier statement (in parentheses) immediately after the statement.

Of course as a UConn fan, I hope we never fall behind and win the game outright. This thread was started as a discussion of the betting line for the game...thus the commends about how I thought it might be best to bet the game (if someone were to choose to do that)

It is quite possible (and quite likely) that they do fall behind in the 1st/early 2nd quarter. And also likely that they eventually lose the game. Rebuilding program and all that...

Chin and Phil put it into perfect perspective. We give up gobs of points and score very little. We sh”t the bed ATS last year. USU is a top 25 team. The allure of easy money v. being true to your school.

They do have something not many schools can claim. A starting QB who was conf championship offensive MVP who will actively play in 6 seasons in college. Nice to have on day one of a new season.
