Sort of thought maybe Paige would catch Maya for the all time scoring record... today! Holy carp Paige! loved the scenario - Geno pulled her in the first half because he was mad at her defense. Finishes the game with one of the best performances we've seen in a long time in a NCAA game.

Started out slow, made a push, Oklahoma pushed back. Surprising Q2 and more surprisingly, down at the half. No worries, Husky faithful. Paige was en fuego in the second half. Still - a few things... I know it's survive and advance, but still would like to see Azzi and Sarah shoot better.

Honestly a total team effort, even tho some of the play was meh. Still, Sarah with a double double, Azzi finally got to 10 points, Ash with a nice offensive game, and KK with the defense. Way to go team!
  • Paige - just wow. Nothing else to add
  • Jana - in spite of not scoring, she grabbed 9 boards, had some nice screens for Paige, and helped keep Beers to 10 points. That was a solid effort.
  • Sarah - off shooting night, but played really good defense, and ended up with a double double, and 5 assists. Welcome to the big time Sarah! This is what you came to UConn for!
  • Azzi also had an off shooting night, but still loved her out there. 5 assists tied Sarah for the team lead.
  • KK total menace on defense and changes the game when she comes in.
  • Ash - way to go girl!
Congrats on the elite 8 team! Keep it up!!

Some thoughts on the Oklahoma game:
  • After UConn inevitably blows away their first 2 opponents during the Big Dance in Storrs, there’s always a concern when facing a talented team like Oklahoma, 2,800 miles from home, and not at the friendly confines of MVP Arena in Albany or Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport.
  • The only player more surprised than Paige when she was fouled on her first 3, was Beers who clobbered her and then looked at the ref in shock when he didn’t call it.
  • Yet another game when UConn came out cold, not because of particularly great defense by OK, but simply because the Huskies were tight as hell. That’s when your superstar needs to take over the game, and she did.
  • With a number of Huskies having tough shooting games, Ash came up huge, not only shooting the ball, but with a great all-around game.
  • My biggest concern this game was rebounding. OK is 2nd in the nation in rebounding margin at +13. Today UConn more than held their own on the boards outrebounding the Sooners 43-41.
  • DEFENSE TRAVELS and today UConn's defense forced an incredible 23 OK turnovers.
  • I thought the combination of Jana, Sarah & Ice did a great job battling Beers throughout the game.
  • With 40 points today, Paige has now moved into 4th place on UConn’s career scoring list ahead of Lou & Tina. She’s now 26 points behind Pheesa for 3rd place, which she ought to top in her next game at the pace she's going.
  • Now we can all exhale, settle back in our chairs and see whether UConn will face the Wildcats or the Trojans on Monday night. GO HUSKIES!!!

Paige was incredible! I thought they handle Beers very well. OU was hot hot from 3 in second quarter. Circus shots!

Other than 2nd quarter, just a great job.

Happy to see Ash contribute in a big game! She always had it, but needed this confidence booster. Lookout next game!!!

Rest of team will come alive next game also I believe.

Jana had a bunch of mistakes but she also played physical against Beers and got some tough RBs. We don’t need a lot from her but definitely need her to play physical defense, esp with Iriafen Lee Betts looming.

Once again very impressed with Sarah’s composure. Her shooting was terribull at the beginning. Most players would’ve tensed up and gotten worse. And yet about a minute after missing another 3, she hit her first one and then hit several shots. Great that she has that confidence.

—Paige’s star keeps getting brighter and brighter.

—part of the shooting woes early can be attributed to how tight the rims were. How many shots went in and out?

-I thought the defensive game plan was as usual spot on. They did a great job of keeping them off the boards.

—The announcers made a big deal about OU’s turnovers. Truth be told, UConn turns everybody over. A lot.

—As brilliant as Paige was, I thought a few others had tough shooting nights.

—How tough is Shade? That was a HARD fall.

-I thought it was weird that OU kept their starters in until the end.

-A healthy Aubrey could have helped. Sadly, her knee seemingly won’t let perform at the level she wants.

- At little nerve wracking in the first half but a great win nonetheless.

Very sloppy game by Oklahoma, took themselves out of the game. UConn did well rebounding and had more than Oklahoma. Hope Azzi contributes more scoring next 3 games. Jana had 9 rebounds- yay!- but zero points- boo!

We stopped Beers but she hurt their defense because she never switched out on to Paige and they had that foul line jumper when ever we wanted. And Yes Jana was fierce today.
Ash showed up and played as hard as anyone could play.
Paige wants it bad and that is good.
Bring anybody anywhere and we will play them.
Go Huskies!!!!!!
