I'm sure Paige will be grateful. If I have it right, Ramadan ends tomorrow evening. I hope they will all have a celebratory meal.

This would be dry wit @CL82 ?I'm sure Paige will be grateful.
And really, who doesn't love Ice covered Beers? Not just Jana, Sarah & Ice covered Beers well.
Something like that. This would be dry wit @CL82 ?
While yesterday’s games all teased promise of upsets, today delivered in spades!
Thank you @RockyMTblue2 for posting the OU presser and yeah, that was very disappointing by Coach B on skipping the opening statement. I lost a bit of respect on that.
As noted by many, DEFENSE travels and our women are locked in! Pack the paint again on Monday and watch KK torture Kayleigh Heckel.
Texas A&M may have the 12th Man but we may well have our 12th TITLE…

Well, there was Doc with his “beer float” in Cannery Row.And really, who doesn't love Ice covered Beers?

Jana only played 12 minutes so the narrative that she shutdown Beers is not very accurateThe narrative that says that Jana was ineffective on defense against Beers. I agree that Beers is a better passer than Jana at this point in Jana's career, and that she is a better low post scorer. However, in this thread you were challenging the claim that Jana did a good job of holding Beers in check. She did. This does not mean that she did so alone, or that there were no other defenses deployed against Beers. Two explanations (for the fact that Beers only scored 10 points) can be true at once.
Well put. The last sentence is the one that really matters.Jana only played 12 minutes so the narrative that she shutdown Beers is not very accurate
In those 12 minutes she had 9 rebounds which
Was fantastic had 3 fouls missed all 3 shot’s including a layup missed both foul shots and
Had trouble holding onto the ball
It’s fair to say that she played very hard put a big body on Beers and helped the team win
ftfySomething like that.
I consider it more of a pithy acknowledgment that our superstar player who who earns roughly $1 million a year in NIL and is the likely first pic of the WNBA draft chose to wake up every morning during Ramadan well before sunrise to make breakfast for her freshman teammate. To me, that's pretty damn cool.
In a world full of self-absorbed superstars, we landed another selfless one. She just impresses the heck out of me.
Yes, i think they’re exhausted about it!!Do you think Oklahoma fans are tired of facing UConn basketball in NCAA tournament games?
Jana is a young player. When you look at her, physically, she doesn't look like an adult yet. What we saw of her this year is pretty much her baseline. She is just going to keep getting better, and better, and better... Watching basketball players develop over their careers is one of the things that I really enjoy about college basketball. Watching Jana become the player she ultimately will be is going to be a blast for UConn basketball fans. I think she's going to be pretty special.Well put. The last sentence is the one that really matters.
Yeah, I got it about 20 minutes later. The chef gets a break. And yes Paige is a great player, but even a greater leader and teammate.Something like that.

It definitely looked like a "let them play" type of game/officiating. Someonewill haveI usaully despise Dee Kantner's style of officiating. It seems like she has her own rule book.
But today, she allowed hard contact & that enabled UCONN to ramp up their stifling defense.
My only comment on the game is that Paige came out of the locker room for the second half and left her conscience behind. She was cold. Brutally efficient and relentless. She made OK play UConn’s way. Go Huskies!
And for being one tough women for getting up from that hellacious fallLet’s hear it for Ash’s game today. 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and just generally being a gnat on defense
I don't know if anyone else recalls but when she was recruited Geno really oversold her. With a lot of words he essentially said she's amazing. That did her no favors. There are times I just have to shake my head at Geno.Jana is a young player. When you look at her, physically, she doesn't look like an adult yet. (On the men's side in particular, NIL and unlimited transferring has created de facto free agency that has made it much less likely that a player will spend their career with one team. That is a shame.)
I mean we do have to remember she’s off an Achilles injury. That’s gotta do some damage to your courage and mobility.I don't know if anyone else recalls but when she was recruited Geno really oversold her. Couldn't believe it that Okla Coach asked them to waive her opening statement.
A 40 point player can hide a lot of sins. Undoubtedly our defense was stellar but the offense was worse than subpar. Tight? Get over it fast!Interesting. I suppose UConn is one of the few teams (maybe the only one?) that didn’t underperform in this round. Perhaps that’s what ‘Vegas’ is thinking. UConn didn’t just hold a high scoring team below their season scoring average. 59 points was OU’s lowest total all season. And they did this despite having a rough start in the 1st half.
Oh, I think we all can understand them, but I can't respect them. Not a good look for her.I think it’s a juvenile move by the head coach, but I can understand her emotions. With her team up in the first half, she thought they’d end UConn’s post season. But then Geno rallied his team, and Paige and the Paigettes reminded Jennie B. why the Huskies rule the Sooners during the NCAAs.
Ditto on comments with special focus on Ash. I have been mystified throughout the season when some posters whine about Shade. Consistently comes up big in important games not only with key shots but great defense, rebounding and overall energy. Some thoughts on the Oklahoma game:
- After UConn inevitably blows away their first 2 opponents during the Big Dance in Storrs, there’s always a concern when facing a talented team like Oklahoma, 2,800 miles from home, and not at the friendly confines of MVP Arena in Albany or Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport.
- The only player more surprised than Paige when she was fouled on her first 3, was Beers who clobbered her and then looked at the ref in shock when he didn’t call it.
- Yet another game when UConn came out cold, not because of particularly great defense by OK, but simply because the Huskies were tight as hell. That’s when your superstar needs to take over the game, and she did.
- With a number of Huskies having tough shooting games, Ash came up huge, not only shooting the ball, but with a great all-around game.
- My biggest concern this game was rebounding. OK is 2nd in the nation in rebounding margin at +13. Today UConn more than held their own on the boards outrebounding the Sooners 43-41.
- DEFENSE TRAVELS and today UConn's defense forced an incredible 23 OK turnovers.
- I thought the combination of Jana, Sarah & Ice did a great job battling Beers throughout the game.
- With 40 points today, Paige has now moved into 4th place on UConn’s career scoring list ahead of Lou & Tina. She’s now 26 points behind Pheesa for 3rd place, which she ought to top in her next game at the pace she's going.
- Now we can all exhale, settle back in our chairs and see whether UConn will face the Wildcats or the Trojans on Monday night. GO HUSKIES!!!
Just for the recordI said this before, but I feel Jana pretty much neutralized Beers. She played hard and with a ton of intensity. The biggest difference in my mind is Beers has more experience. With a year under her belt, I will be taking Jana over Beers.
