The number of CA. schools in the Pac-12 is irrelevant. I'm talking about the number of high school and club level women athletes in CA. primarily, but also the other Pac-12 states. What I'm suggesting is that the Pac-12 schools do in fact recruit the lions share of those women athletes, but many of them compete in other sports, not basketball.

And I think with your last sentence you've agreed with me. The Pac-12 has had some great players, just not enough of them and I would add that the reason they've not had enough of them is that they chose other sports:D

I was responding to your post "I've often wondered why Pac-10/Pac-12 women's BB has not been more competitive nationally"

That wasn't just CA, but the entire conf.

This is not a good year for WCBB outside the top 7 teams and maybe the top 5.........UCONN on a neutral floor scares every team in the top 10........Baylor is not the same team on the road........The difference is UCONN's defense, it travels home and away.......Tonight, OU will not know what hit them by half time......Pleaase give us a game.

Sagarin agrees on the neutral court measure, where it ranks UConn #1 by about 3.5 points over the composite #1 Bears in the Predictor calculation, generally considered the more accurate of the two data sets used to figure the rankings. 3rd-rated ND has a 5 point lead over Stanford in the general rankings and 7 points in the Predictor.

Interestingly, Sags gives UTenn a lot of love with a #6 ranking, so Vols fans who think the team could still be dangerous may have some grist to work with there.

Just something to think about. Del and EDD top 5 next season????? Theyre top 10 this season check the poll.

FWIW Stanford with the O sister IMO aint no cupcake. Their conference may not be the tuffest but Stanford has a good supporting cast.

Re Delaware, it depends on how they do in the NCAAs, assuming they run the table in the conference. If they lose in round 1 or 2, no. If they make it to the Elite 8 and play well, they could be ranked 6-8 next year. Top 5 may be a stretch, but a high ranking is certainly possible. I saw their game at Maryland. If that had been a home game, Delaware likely would have won.

The fact that Stanford hasn't lost to an unranked team doesn't begin to make up for the fact that ND is 8-1 against ranked teams, including 3-1 against teams in the top 7, while Stanford is 1-1 against ranked teams. That's especially true since WVU is within a hair of being ranked.

Just to change topic slightly, I'm guessing you live in Ca., as I did (Bay area) for 17 years and I've often wondered why Pac-10/Pac-12 women's BB has not been more competitive nationally. My theory is that the talent is there, but that it tends to be diffused because of the popularity of so many other sports, like volleyball, soccer, swimming and softball. Add to that the weather, which permits athletes to engage in those sports on a near year round basis, whereas athletes in many other parts of the country are confined to indoor sports (basketball being the prime beneficiary I suspect) a good part of the year.

That would be the clincher for me. Since last night I took the leap at saying ND would stay at 2 (big gamble admittedly, for the sake of looking prescient) I cannot conceive of the logic of dropping them behind Stanford.

I dunno ... games like this one make me nervous... feels like it has trap game potential. You know Sheri will do everything she can to get this point home...win this and you have made your year.

Good stuff...I feel GREAT about UConn's chances against anyone, anywhere and would relish a rematch with Baylor. If Stanford were to meet ND, the O sisters will torch ND's front court and Peters will be fouled out early into the 2nd half. I'd agree that TN is dangerous. They're volatile because they're emotionally wounded and can channel that "us against the world" motivation. Get a good lead on them though and they'll fold like a lawn chair.

1. Baylor
2. UConn
3. Stanford
4. ND
5. Duke
6. Miami
7. Kentucky
8. Maryland
9. Ohio State
10. Delaware

AP Poll from Yahoo sports (new Coach's poll comes out tomorrow)

Boy, if Kentucky is a #7, considering how awful they looked tonight vs. Tennessee, I'll eat my hat. ;)

This TN team is potentially dangerous only in Knoxville and against similar teams, not the elite teams. Away from home they are not dangerous at all against most teams.

Tell me you do not think that OK will not give people fits this year! They are deep and fit and can win on any given night!

It would be nice. I do not see it. Hopefully, Delaware can get a few big dogs on their schedule with whom to tussle.
