UConn Men's Soccer - 2025

I think over 2k is what should have been expected for the crowd. Like football, the men’s soccer fanbase has been deteriorating due to a decade long down turn. Gone was the goal patrol. Gone was the iconic Friends of Connecticut soccer tent. It all just disappeared over time.

This run also sorta came out of nowhere.

I’m also puzzled why Maryland, who went through the season undefeated, was a 4 seed. Doubly annoying is UNC won in penalty kicks last game and was ahead yesterday. We could have hosted again. But still this year is a good first step forward for this coach.

Just having two that finished college, the Thanksgiving break has turned into a full week off for most students. Cancelled or remote classes on Monday and Tuesday. Even if not cancelled, missing one day of class to be home for 4 extra days is a no-brainer. I am guessing that had a bit to due with low on-campus attendance.

Yeah, I had to ask my daughter why she's home today and it was because her classes are online. As a parent, I really hate paying full price for this, but thankfully in two weeks it is all over.

i remember often being the last one out of a small dorm on the Wed. before Thanksgiving.

Maryland beats UConn men's soccer 3-0 in the NCAA tournament game today.

Am at work. Not like it would have mattered but was the 2nd half red card legit?
Hard to tell from the replay I saw but it probably was. They went to a video review. Elbow to the head going for a header and multiple Maryland players were extremely heated afterward, which is usually a sign that a line has been crossed.

Yeah. I watched the game when I got home. We were outclassed in every phase and tried to turn it into a rugby match. On the red card play it looked like our guy was trying take his head off. Gbandi getting tossed with 5 to go was an embarrassing look too. We were outshot 23-5. That’s not a referee issue. He was really mouthy to the Cornell staff last week too. Some of his behavior makes Hurley seem tame. Kinda concerning.

A solid season but we have room to get better.

Gbandi needs to build on this team's results. Considering all the departures and new faces going into this season, this was a very good outcome. Now we need to upgrade the talent and add some roster stability, if possible.

Going to be tough adding too much roster stability because we're losing a lot of important guys. Off the top of my head, Roudette-Gregory, Brummett, Tomerius, Charlie Holmes, and Balthi Saunders are all seniors or grad students. There's a chance some of those guys have another year of eligibility (Roudette-Gregory played a year of JuCo), but we'll definitely have a lot of spots to fill.

I also have to suspect Durham will probably get drafted because I think he impressed more than Jayden Hibbert or Kerkvliet but I could just be conflating his success with the team success I guess.

Not embarrassing at all. Coach G had heard enough lip from Sasho and his team. His defenders were tugging uniforms and clipping heals the entire match.
Sasho is idiot- always has been always will be. Known him for years

No comments on the World Cup draw? Seems a favorable group for USMNT

I don't think you could ask for any better. Key is we can win the group, theoretically play a lesser opponent to start the knockout round and at least reach the quarters. I really want Rayna to stay healthy and play until then

Was expecting the worst, right up until avoiding Ghana on the 4th line

The counterpoint is that none of the teams are bad either. None of those games will be easy. But they certainly can win the group.

Agree, but everyone would have signed up for this, I know I would have

I mean if we can't at least advance out, in our home country, shame on US soccer

"The soccer team were like rock stars in the early 80’s at UConn."

I was a UConn student during that time period, and there is no question I agree with this statement, that is for sure.

Tom Thompson from St. Paul in Bristol. I think he may have only played freshman and maybe sophomore year. Soccer Sundays, nothing like it.
