Best one yet. So excited to have Steven on our squad, I think he will really surprise the fans this year.

I'm also high on Enoch, I think he will provide valuable backup minutes this year and could be a beast down the road. He's young for his grade, fairly new to the game, has a great frame, well spoken and has a great work ethic. All of those things bode well for a young big.

He will surprise. I laugh whenever anyone says he should be behind Phil on the depth chart.

He absolutely should be behind Phil on the depth chart.
I would put money down that he will not be behind Phil by the Georgetown game. Mark it. He's 6'10 with an NBA frame, shooting ability, an actual offensive game, and a top 50-60 recruit. Phil is a liability and looks like I did playing sports in middle school, (awkward ). Sure, he's great at taking charges and is a team leader/veteran but that is all he offers. That and his 5 fouls.

Playing time will obviously be earned but experience matters and Phil has a ton of it, if Enoch is getting more time than Phil it would be surprising and only make us a deeper and better team.

You eventually may be right but you are understating Ollie's emphasis on defense by touting Enoch's offensive abilities. It's all for not if he isn't in the right position on defense. But don't take my word for it, Take Coach Ollie's:

http://www.courant.com/sports/uconn...ll-middlesex-chamber-1006-20151005-story.html

"We want to stress four things," he said. "One, defend; two, rebound; three, run; and four, execute.

I don't see shooting, offensive game or recruiting rankings anywhere on that list.

I did however see this:

Phil is a very quiet, unassuming person off the court, but each time I look at the tape, and I look at defense and being in the right spot, he's the best one on the team."

Conclusion, the best player on the team at the #1 stressed priority will play more than the freshman who granted shows considerable upside.

Phil may look awkward at times, doesn't rebound well and is limited offensively but he is our best position defender, best screen setter, and takes the most charges. None of these things show up in the boxscore but they help you win games. Jake Voskuhl never scored 20 points in a game in his whole life but he was one of the most underrated Husky players of all-time and a winning player.

I swear Enoch's recruiting ranking continues to skyrocket in every retelling. He is not as polished as some of you make it seem.

I don't agree with him instantly shooting above Phil in the rotation, but he is a top 50-60 recruit by everyone except ESPN tho

How low did ESPN have him then because he's 85 composite on 247?

If Phil could play at 1/5 Jake's level I'd be thrilled.

Voskuhl rebounded, blocked shots, took charges and was an above average passer for a center.

not in their top 100, I don't think they number recruits once you get past #100. 247 has him at 48, Scout has him at 44, and Rivals has him at 58. Don't really see how Yankee32123 was embelishing his rank, 3 out of major 4 have him top 50-60.

Jake Voskuhl got drafted and played 9 years in the NBA. Phil is not even close to that.

Enoch is a freshman. We are in good shape the next 3 years, regardless of his PT and contributions this season. Miller, Nolan, Facey and Brimah will have him ready next season.

Whatever he gives us this year (even if only fouls to give) will be a bonus. When was the last time we had a big that we didn't need or more accurately could afford to develop?

Me too, Phil isn't even close to the player Jake was. I was just pointing out how underappreciated Jake was because he wasn't a stats guy.

ESPN is also easily the worst scouting service.

He's 85 on 247. What am I missing? It says it was updated a week ago.

That's the composite ranking, which for some reason, they emphasize more than their own ranking. Underneath is his 247 site ranking, which is 48.

Amazed that my post could go right over your head. I brought up Jake because he was underappreciated by many Uconn fans at the time because he did a lot of things that don't show up in the boxscore, Phil does some of things as well which Ollie seems to recognize and you seem not to.
