UConn is sixth in AP Poll for 2-23-2026 | The Boneyard

UConn is sixth in AP Poll for 2-23-2026

All kinds of movement in the top 10.

Florida making the big leap. Poll generally looks good - we are interchangeable with Houston & ISU. I'd keep Illinois in front of the Zags.

So let me get this straight.

For weeks, we were arguing about recency bias.

Then Houston loses 2 games in the same week (granted, to top teams) and they don't have the resume of UConn, yet they are ahead?

Seems this recency bias is bunk. I know UConn lost to Creighton, but look at how UConn got hammered the previous week for its loss to St. John's. It dropped from 2 to 6.

Villanova still 28th and 27th in Ap and Coaches so their lose to us didn't really make them fall any places.

I'd have UConn 4 - my point is I don't really care much about the AP Poll at this point in the year. I'm just saying they are all of the same quality and you can draw an argument for any of the three. There is a lot of play in that 3-6 range.

Just checked the poll tracker by voter.

UConn's record is frequently dinged by people mentioning the weak BE.

Yet several voters have teams like Gonzaga and Nebraska ahead of UConn.

Yes, but I'm just questioning this recency bias thing we've been talking about.

Yeah I agree...kind of a joke. But not surprising. As long as I can remember, at every turn, when there's a chance to give UConn the benefit of the doubt or a leg up, we never get it. Just wildly unfair treatment and bias in the sports media. Chalk it up to being in the BE, or jealousy of the winning, not fitting the mold, or whatever. But there's no doubt we do not get respect. And you know what, I kind of would not want it any other way. Bring it!

Duke at #1 makes my stomach hurt, but makes sense. They beat #1 while Arizona took out #2. Makes sense those two slotted up, although Arizona/Michigan is essentially a wash. 6 points separate them between #2 and #3

Iowa St probably isn't #4 level good, but beating #2 while UConn/Houston lost helped them despite the BYU loss. This one doesn't feel right tbh

Surprised Florida moved up so much, but not complaining as that makes our win against them (now top 10!) even shinier. Illinois also remains in the top 10 although Kansas dropped out after a miserable loss

Is Virginia that good? I know they've been cruising and that record looks impressive. But I haven't really watched them this year so I don't know

St Johns #15, Villanova 3rd team out although only they only have 15 points where #25 is at 171. The gap there is pretty big considering it's at the end of the list. Win @ St Johns this weekend and they should jump in, but that's pretty much their only chance with 4 games to go

I'm kind of shocked we stayed at #6 lol I assumed the Creighton loss would put us near 10. I guess I was overreacting..

Anyone that has Nebraska in front of us is clearly voting with some kind of bias. That is ridiculous - almost zero rationale. They've stunk of late. Seth Davis loves dropping us down - it's so consistent it's uncanny.

Great to see Duke back on top. We should probably be ranked 5th. Let’s beat the Johnnies.

Who is Victor Flores and why does someone from Billings, Montana get to vote? I just gave him a "thumbs down" for his poll. Lol

Again, you don't do the research before posting something. You crack me up. Not that I want to stand up for Seth Davis but he actually moved UConn up 2 spots after UConn's 1-1 week. He had them #11 last week and #9 this week. He had them #2 the Monday before the St. John's loss.

So he dropped us 9 slots for losing to a top 20 team at their place?

Hoping Dook finishes the year ranked #1 so they can hang their “#1 in the AP Poll” banner while flaming out in the 2nd round of the tournament. We have bigger things to play for than AP poll ballots.

7 spots actually. He had UConn #9 the next Monday. Then #11 the next week after that. Does seem harsh but he's a Dookie so it's expected.

Yes HooperScooper, I threw it out that he loves dropping us down, normally. I wasn't in the mood to go looking for the voters. Are you saying Seth is doing us a favor by having us at 9? Lol. That's three spots lower than the AP poll has us and completely supports the statement. Seth loves under-ranking Uconn.

Not really related to UConn (outside of the fact we beat them OOC) but I find it interesting BYU moved up 4 spots in the AP but dropped one spot in the Coaches' Poll. They did actually gain votes (114 to 137) but I figured after losing @Arizona and beating Iowa State they would be top 20 again in both polls. Instead they are 19 in the AP and 23 in the Coaches' Poll.

These polls are all subjective
