UConn is going Bowling > Wasabi Fenway Bowl v. Army (Saturday 12/27/25 @2:15 on ESPN)

Yeah, that’s partially it, but it’s also just frustration with the system. We are being disappointed by the system and when it hits your fan base you feel it.

A couple of years ago when FSU was looking like a national champ until their QB went down in their last game, their fans were absolutely pumped. Then they got left out of the playoff because they were a depleted team without their star QB. So, then half their starters or more opted out of the bowl game and they got wrecked. The average fan, including the ones on this board, had no sympathy whatsoever and did not want to hear that their good players didn’t even play. They said FSU was just a paper tiger and “next man up” and all the other cliches. Unrelated most likely, but FSU has had real rough sledding ever since.

We cannot afford that kind of reaction when Army grinds us to dust. Nobody cares that we may not even have a QB for the game if the one remaining guy we have turns an ankle in practice. This is a systematic failure and it looks like it is going to make a mockery of our program at a very bad time.

On top of that, in order to cheer on your team you have to pay a bunch of money and freeze your butt off. Bad timing and unfortunate circumstances all around. The only thing that makes this ok is if tons of crazy UConn fans show up and our remaining guys somehow pull off what could be considered a genuine miracle. I hope it happens but it sure looks like we are about to be a victim of the system.
Yes. This is a UConn issue only.
No other programs are dealing with coaching changes, disappointing bowls or players sitting out.

🤦🏻‍♂️

If it's true about the ticket sales, that's pretty impressive.
One really relevant fact, that maybe other Uconn fans can confirm, is that this years Fenway ticket prices are now more than double ($64) the cost of last years game.-

For guys like Evers that have a lot of physical talent and were highly rated in the past, it might be better for NIL negotiations to stay off the field and sell suitors the potential and development over the last few years at UConn. If he gets on the field and looks awful, bye bye paycheck.

I will believe that Evers would pass on a chance to start a game before entering the portal when I see it. Just from his Mom’s social media, he can’t be that stupid. Why wouldn’t he want to let the world see him play.
The only possible reason that I can think of is that the OL ones are not playing.

i noticed that myself. Decided to wait until there is clarity on who is actually playing. Still do not know. Maybe on Christmas Eve they will issue a two deep.

I bought tickets immediately and paid $6 more per ticket (6% increase) which seems reasonable. My group was 10 last year and 24 this year. They are a little dissapointed with how things have worked out but still pretty pumped for the game.

When do we find out who is playing for us in this bowl game?
I'll be honest. It's absolutely unconscionable that the school hasn't addressed this yet. It's been two weeks since rumors started popping up here, and at this point players are either practicing and getting ready for the game or they're not. I'm glad ticket sales are going well, but this is a huge fail on Benedicts part.

I actually think they are trying to recruit the players on the fence into the game. They actually just started practicing a couple of days ago.

Once they have full clarity then I think they will release the information

Agreed. It’s ridiculous to ask ppl to buy tickets to a game when we have no idea who is still on the team , who is still coaching etc. College football has to make major changes

It’s planned. He wants to sell tickets, lock people in, then they will announce who’s in/out.

I believe that the players reported back on Wednesday and yesterday was the first official Bowl practice. Storrs Central mentioned that Sammis and select players are meeting w/ the media later today?

I think they couldn't confirm who was opting out until yesterday as that is when players had to report back to campus for practice. We already knew about Bell and Fagnano being out for a while. And, these things are fluid.

Example. I’m hearing Evers may enter the portal and sit out. McDonald is hurt. So we might have one freshman QB available. Maybe ? Crazy

I have to say, after what I just read and found out on other sites, I'm very disheartened for those who are opting out and don't think UConn football worth their time anymore. I root for the team, the logo, not the "what about me" student-athlete wearing the uniform. The kids that decided to stay and are willing to gut it out despite the mounting obstacles, I wish those kids the absolute best. They have basically 1 week to gel together against a tough opponent. It won't be easy, but I've got more respect for them for trying than for the others who bailed.

it seems like they are holding off until last minute to avoid negative impact on ticket sales

The players are the ones who make the ultimate decision. But.... they have people in their ears. Whether they play or not is heavily influenced by folks who don't care about the football side of things.

Yeah, but if that's what he is doing it's unconscionable. So to sell two bowl tickets to me, one time, they're risking the annual season ticket purchases and related fund contribution for preferred seats that I've given them since we opened the REnt 25 years ago? Even if Benedict had no more morality than that, he can't be that stupid.

My vote is a combination of incompetence, in terms of Benedict not realizing HE had to be responsible for making sure players wanted to do this up front, and as proposed above uncertainty in terms of players who are hemming and hawing about it without committing either way.

Buying tickets is a voluntary act, no one is forcing you to do anything. Anytime you buy a ticket to a future sporting event you are in some respects assuming the risk that a player or players will not perform on that night. If you buy a Lakers ticket you are not guaranteed to see Lebron, etc. For the most part the casual UConn football fan will buy tickets (or not) based on the weather and their schedules. Most of the hard core fans will go notwithstanding the roster uncertainty. Assuming good weather the attendance will be very good, in part because the Army fan base travels. There are no rules or laws requiring that the Athletic Director disclose opt outs in advance, and if he's not doing so to protect ticket sales then I'd say he is doing his job.

There is no law against fraud? Knowingly or recklessly misstating a material fact or failing to disclose a fact necessary to not make disclosed information materially misleading? And the point isn't even whether it's legal. It's about trying to pull $200 bucks one time from people like me at the risk of losing the $1k or so it's cost me annually for 25 years. Doing one's job is not pulling pennies out of supporters at the risk of blowing dollars.
