UConn is #1 again and…computers don’t like Iowa State

I assumed Massey would be one of the computer guys. But if he has them at 8, he must be seeing something the others aren’t. And yet it looks like he’s forecasting them as a 5-loss team in the end. That could be enough for them to host the first two rounds in March, though if Iowa is also a possible host site I wonder what the committee will do.

As for me, I’m kinda rooting for Iowa St to do well this year, not just because of Audi and Addy, but mainly because I’d like to see Jada thrive. She’s a spunky kid with a lot of chutzpah and deserves a bit of the limelight.

I suspect Iowa State is a mirage...they will vanish when teams learn that in order to beat ISU, they have to deny Crooks the basketball. She is going to move any and all defenders out of her way as she plows through them to the hoop.... if they double team and deny her the ball, I doubt the rest of the Team would be unable to beat most/many of the rest of the top 20.

To be clear - Massey is another computer analysis, not a subjective one

Yes, hence my post. The other computer analyses placed Iowa St lower than the human analysts do... except for Massey. I assume this was your point in adding the link to Massey to your original post. Something Massey does differently distinguishing his ratings.

Sorry - I misunderstood due to this sentence “But if he has them at 8, he must be seeing something the others aren’t. ”

Yes, I needed my irony emoji for that one. I'm so emoji-forgetful.

I also follow the ISU women and I understand why folks point to their
[so far] schedule as a reason to lower their ranking. I heard their coach
[friend of Geno] talk about their early schedule.

Last year ISU played both South Carolina and UConn early season in a tourney in Florida.
They got crushed in both games. Coach said that he felt that had serious negative
impact and purposefully wanted soften up the early games this year...and he did...by a lot.
Prior to their game with Iowa their schedule was something like #308 in the land.....that lack
of strength counts. Their Big 12 league does have some good teams and we'll
see how they do in conference play....as to how good they are. I think [hope] they are a legit NCAA tourney team
with a shot at playing the second weekend...we'll see.

BTW: The ISU men's team is also undefeated and ranked #4. Their Big jump from around 11 to 4 happened a few weeks ago when they crushed then #1 and then undefeated Purdue by around 20 points....AT Purdue. They have been playing very well and are a final four legit team...imo.

BTW #2 They have quite a few international players on the team...like a certain coach we love.

I don’t know what the ISU men are ranked but it’s not #4

ISU men now up to #3

1: Arizona
2: Michigan
3: ISU
4: UConn
5:Purdue

Any guesses where UConn would be if we hadn't lost a very, very
close game to Arizona? Not positive but I think Reed and Mullins
didn't play due to injuries.

If they won that game they would definitely be number 1 right now.

Correct. Shorthanded two starters and still almost won.

There's a lot of teams they could play who are weaker than Connecticut or South Carolina, but stronger than Valparaiso or Mercyhurst. I still can't figure out any advantage for a ranked team to be playing teams below 300.

Deny her the ball as you say and run run run on offense to wear her down in the 4th quarter.

“Run run run” and Fenelly will have to take her off the floor a lot sooner than that. Not merely because of fatigue but because she can’t defend in that sort of game.

One way he handles her time on court: He tends to take her out with a minute or so before the TV timeouts...
so she gets some regular extra rest during the game in addition to the team timeouts.
The have a back-up big who spells her and from what I have seen she can be
productive....maybe 6'4"...pretty athletic...runs well for her size.
