UCONN - Iowa post game

Looking for help. Given the 2022/23 roster only Lopez-Senechal and Juhasz will be completing their UConn careers whenever the season ends. The remaining 10 has 3 listed as Juniors (Bueckers/Muhl/Edwards) and a Red shirt Junior (Griffin), 3 sophs (Fudd/Ducharme/DeBerry) and 3 frosh (Brady/Patterson/Bettencourt). I don't recall the recruits but for my question they are not in the mix. How many years (using them or not) of eligibility does Paige have? And does Brady have 4 when she starts her career in the 23/24 season? And guessing that Edwards has two years left. Now my guesses don't know if any of the women will leave because their class graduates or they turn 22 only because that was the last WNBA rule I was aware of. So help from any experts in the myriad of what could be will be appreciated.

Classy group - them Iowa ladies!!!
So cool hearing Caitlin spend much of her short time in the presser to praising her longtime teammate, Kate Martin, for her performance. Clark is misjudged by a lot of people who haven't seen her play all that much, or seen her interviews. She's very much Huskies-like classy (except for her occasional impetuous moment on the court).

After this year and beginning with the 2023-24 year, and adding in the free Covid year; Griffin has two years eligibility and Paige has three years eligibility.

My time is not my own now. We have a 3 year in our house (our great grand niece) part time. Her mom is not in a position to care for her right now. She runs the house when she's here. Case in point......she wanted me to give her her bath yesterday with 1:52 seconds left in the game. I told her she would have to wait a couple of minutes. She could not understand why. Short of a house fire or an earthquake, I WAS NOT going to leave the game before it was over.

There are 3 adults in the house. We take turns playing with her, bathing her, feeding her and keeping her entertained. That means taking her outside (you can't keep a kid cooped up in the house all day, especially when it's nice out. It also means getting on the floor and playing with her toys and dolls which can be a challenge when you're our age. Sometimes when I'm watching TV, and she'll get up in my chair and tell me she wants to watch Mickey Mouse or some other cartoon, totally oblivious that I might be enjoying what I'm watching, and might want to continue watching it. Guess what.....suddenly we're now watching Mickey Mouse. Get the picture? :)

We love having her here, understanding that she's here for a reason. The Father put her here on purpose. She's a blessing to all of us. We've had her since she was 6 weeks old. I miss her when she's at her grandmother's house. She lives between the two households. She is miss personality. So, I live and work around her needs and wants when she's here. I'm the only man in her life, so I can't/don't tell her no when she needs or want's my attention. In the next couple of years, she'll need less and less of my time as she matures a little and begins preschool/kindergarten and TV programs are able to hold her attention longer.

As she grows older that will change. My two grown granddaughters don't need me anymore like they did when they were her age. :( So in the mean time........she runs through the house spending time with each of us on a rotating basis. I love it. :D Here she comes now.
I would have loved to have a granddaughter. I have been blessed with three sons and five grandsons, the latest born three hours after the Texas game last Monday. God bless you for caring for that precious little girl, I know she will always remember you for your kindness and love.

oops .... in place of "eligibility" for both Aubrey and Paige, should read "competition remaining"

as a refresher: Athletes have 5 years of eligibilty to complete 4 years of competition. The Covid year, 2020 - 21, does not count as a year of competition. I think athletes who get a sixth year of eligibility automatically but I am not positive.

Each does her job remarkably well for what is needed for her team. That Caitlin shoots it at 45-47 percent considering all those difficult shots, I'd say she's a reasonable alternative.
I think her percentage is helped by a lot of layups. And she is awfully accomplished at getting fouls called so even when she misses the shot the attempt gets erased with the foul.

You mean that she is great at flopping, correct?;)

Well said, Bald Husky. I have been blessed many times over doing all those things you talked about Carnac that little ones demand. These days, with the youngest in my extended family being adolescent great nieces and great nephews, it's just beautiful memories. Hang in there, Carnac, as Bald Husky so well said, that girl will carry your love with her forever.

So you don't consider Caitlin Clark a reasonable alternative as a contributor for her team? Posters who love to discredit Caitlin should watch her play more often. If they still don't like her as a player, that's their prerogative.

A smooth way to put it so you don't upset her UConn fans. Nice move. ;)

not addressing "reasonable alternative" I just don't think of Clark as a high percentage shooter .... she gets bailed out of a lot of low percentage shots by fouls. Some players create shots, some create fouls. I thnk she is very good at doing both.

Hear you..
3 year old granddaughter here (we've adopted her).
TV here is "catch as catch can" (Or something like that ) , unless you want to catch Blue's Clues or Peppa Pig!
She's melted the remote, that I once ruled with an iron fist, right out of my hand!

.-.
Carnac if you're waiting for Caroline to replace Lou you'll be waiting a long time. CD is
the perfect 6th man. Lou is a starter.

Fouls, legitimate fouls which by the rules could be valid calls, are often not called by officials. Either because they missed them, or they've decided to "let them play" or a thousand other subjective mental processes. I can't blame a player for trying to help them out and make them adhere to rulebook calls in a particular instance.

I don't like flopping but I can't be judgmental about it. I've seen enough of Caitlin to think she doesn't do it to manufacture contact that doesn't exist; I'd like to think she feels actually fouled and is just responding in an exaggerated manner to make it clear what (she thinks) has actually happened. If a player cheats in that respect the official can make a judgement.

Many (probably most) players probably feel that officiating error of this kind is just part of the game and that fouls called/not-called pretty much even out over the long run; they just get on with their lives without drama. I like that; I think that's generally part of the UConn way (though at times we can flop with the best of them).

I watched the Portugal v Uruguay World Cup game this afternoon. The entire game there were flopping fish all over the pitch. Second half had 9 minutes of stoppage time.

I can be judgemental about flopping. It's a detriment to the flow of the game and just a poor look. The fact that officials in basketball fall for it too much is bad for the game. Officials in Pro soccer seem to have gotten past that "for the most part", letting the fish flop and play on. But, because the tactic occasionally gets a call it persists and I fear that the "exaggerated reaction" will only get worse in WCBB to the games detriment.

But that's my opinion, Your's can vary.
