I don't think cam is unathletic. I just think guys like Spencer, Hauser, Duncan Robinson, Austin Reaves there are guys like that all over nba. Look at Nembhard, nba struggles to evaluate basketball players that are over age 22 and grew into pros. Easier to justify a salary on a young guy.

Hell, even go back to Brunson or even Fred Aman Fleet. How the hell they second rounder again? Same with Tyrese Martin.

Also, late first too. Payton Pritchard
Cam is unathletic and undersized for NBA standards for shooting guards. Defensively, he can make up for with his smarts etc. It is all about defense and guarding your position. Offensively it is less relevant.

If a guy shoots over 40% from 3 on volume, its hard to keep a guy like that off the floor. And now you have his solid passing and 3+ to 1 assist to turnover ratio.

I don't know what the numbers say but watching the games DC's defense isn't there, especially since he's come back from his most recent leg injury. Guys are scoring over him with ease, including Kawhi putting him on a poster tonight.
I have no evidence of course - but he looks like he’s playing through something that has him way less than 100 percent. He’s below the rim a lot and there was a play yesterday that resulted in a Lopez three where DC rotated into the corner and he looked like a 40 year old the way he was moving/plodding. He’s never been the most graceful offensive player but he’s usually pretty light on his feet defensively.

Watching the playoffs and finals last year, while Dort and Caruso especially are absoluetly great on defense, they hold and hack and get away with it more than anyone I’ve seen in recent years. Caruso was actually hanging off Jokic’s back in the western conference finals with no calls.
Perhaps the Spurs D is actually better than OKC's.

Steph settled for 3s far too much tonight. When he isn’t hitting and isn’t really coming close, he needs to focus on driving and passing more. He is virtually unstoppable going to the rim focusing on that in the off shooting games makes the team better, Spurs have a good amount of shooters.

His defense was pretty poor tonight as well, unlike him. Also, you can pretty much pencil in 3-5 turnovers for him every game. He ends up jumping on too may pass attempts which is a big no-no for every level of ball.

Yeah. He was picked on the dribble 3 or 4 times too and missed badly in the midrange. Just didn’t have anything unless he could get to the rim. A learning curve game - Spurs missed not having Fox available to take charge and let Castle slide into a supplemental role.

Even the greatest American-born player has an off night sometimes!

Rough day for the NBA guys -
  • Castle led the way with 20 points and 7 assists on 8-19 shooting, but also 1-8 on threes and 4 turnovers in a loss to a bad Jazz team
  • AJax, Hawkins, Tyrese all DNP-CD
Better day for the G League guys -
  • Newton 35 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists on 8-11 shooting (2-3 from three and 9-10 on FTs) against Liam's team
  • Liam countered with 27 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists on 9-18 (2-6 from three), and the win
  • Samson is starting alongside Steven Ashworth (lol). Finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds on 5-9 shooting
  • Bouknight had 10 points and 8 rebounds, but shot 2-8 and fouled out
  • Even Polley got in the mix with 5 minutes (although no stats)
  • Does Rahsool Diggins count? He is playing in Boston, had 7 points and 3 assists in 12 minutes (2-7 FG, 1-5 3P)

Tyler Kolek and Cam Jones are seeing NBA minutes. Wonder what’s up with Newton to do the same thing.

Also saw a highlight of our old friend Collin Gillespie getting into it with Daymond last week. I didn’t realize he’s still in the league although admittedly I pay very little attention to the NBA. Seems like every other week Newt is dropping big numbers in the G League so hopefully he gets another shot soon.

The Wolves seem to be going to Bones Hyland as their new main guard off the bench instead of TSJ and Dillingham. Would love to see Newton come into that role

I think he’s a starter now! He’s having a breakout year. Averaging 13 points a game on super efficient shooting. 15+ points in 5 straight games

Nitpicking, but this is the 2nd time I’ve noticed that the FGs and points don’t add up for Newton.

Looks like they don’t add up for Liam here, either.

That’s crazy. Neither of those add up but it’s exactly the same numbers on the ESPN box score. How is that possible?

Noticed that too yesterday - the total of everyone’s individual points matches the final score. But the team FG (39) 3FG (13) and FT (14) equal 105, which is 12 points short.

A couple other players are off by a point or two (Johnson off 2 points - Bernard and Eastern off 1), but Newton was off by 8.

I investigated and something was really weird in the play by play where if someone shot two free throws, the score moved by 2 and the player only get credit for shooting 1. Going through the play by play, Newton looks like he lived at the line and was actually 17-18 on free throws (once he made 3 and only got credit for 1). It was fixed at the very end.

I have a horrible pet peeve for putting assists before rebounds in anything. I can't take it seriously even if Wooden himself wrote it.

Points
Rebounds
Assists

How hard is it?

.-.
Someone tell me how to feel about this gimmicky rule.
I kinda get it. If someone is fouled while successfully making a 2 point shot, they get a 1 point free throw. If someone is fouled, and misses, a 2 point shot, they get one 2 point free throw, and ditto a 3 point shot. It would speed up the game but it robs teams of the ability to get an offensive rebound and maybe more points or a defensive rebound and fast break.
