Spacing is undeniably bad there, but that is where the coach wants him. DC had 16-14 with 2 blocks, 2 assists and a steal in 26 minutes of a win. DC was 8-9 in the paint (should have been 8-8 as he was fouled on his one miss but it wasn't called, horrid no-call), but 0-3 from three.

Duren had 8-7 in 21 minutes against the Cavs in a loss.

My point here is, it's a long season, let it play out.

Yeah I’m not saying Duren is a better player. I think Clingan is fully capable of being a better player if he focused more on what was effective for him today. Which was shooting almost 100% in the paint.

Almost like that should get all of his focus and energy the same way it does for Duren.

Appreciate you being honest and reasonable about what happened in that picture.
 
Clingan had 16 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks on 8-12 (0-3 from 3). Outplayed Ayton for sure

Drummond had 4 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks in 23 minutes off the bench

Castle had 22 points on 50%, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, but another high turnover game with 5. 1-4 from three and 9-14 FTs

Nets got blasted but Tyrese had 11 points in 23 bench minutes (3-8 from three)

Hawkins scoreless on 0-5 shooting in 15 minutes. Starting to get concerned he‘ll be glued to the bench when Dejounte comes back. He has not had a good start to the season at all

Cam with 11 points in 14 minutes. 3-3 from three and 2-2 from the line. Also chipped in 3 assists and 2 rebounds

He averages under 2 3PA per game. Can we stop making it seem like he is just jacking up 3’s? The implication that he’s ignoring development in other parts of his game to work on a competent enough shot to attempt 0-2 wide open 3s per game is laughably dumb.

Clingan is actually shooting more 3s a game this year than Wemby. But let’s make stuff up because our feelings are hurt lol

I don’t have contempt for anyone. I have contempt for continuing to cloud the board with either bad takes or takes based on emotion. He’s wrong about so much in this thread and continues to be the loudest poster. It hurts threads that are usually worthwhile to read.

Comparing DC to Duren should have been the thing that made him take a look in the mirror and say “Hm, maybe I am just arguing for arguing’s sake” but obviously it hasn’t. It’s dumb and I will call it out when it happens, get over it.

The only thing dumb is thinking a guy who is 7’2 can’t do the same thing a guy who is 6’10 is doing. And doubling down after a game he just shot 8-9 from the paint and 0-3 from three while providing no spacing further proving the point.

But I’m the one going off emotions and not what we’re watching in real time.

I think it’s fair to assume that people whose full-time job it is to get better at basketball are being coached to further develop all skills. Arguing if Clingan should be working on his outside shot or his inside game is like arguing if you should breathe or have a heartbeat. He’s definitely doing both.

There’s only but so much time in a day. Players definitely have a focus over the summer.

For example, Ant wanted to improve becoming a better 3 point shooter and became the best 3 point shooter in the league last year. Got knocked out by SGA and this summer his focus was calling up Jordan to see how he can develop a post game because he lacked that in the playoffs as that wasn’t his focus.

Wemby trained with Hakeem and KG this summer and has been starting the season off terrorizing the midrange and post. After attempting almost 9 threes a game last year he’s down to under 3 and had a game he didn’t attempt one at all.

Developing all skills at once sounds good in theory, but realistically you have specific focuses you want to improve. You usually aren’t developing multiple things at once. From the looks of it DCs focus was 3 point shooting.

No, you're arguing small details while ignoring the actual points we're making. Literally none of us are saying he shouldn't catch lobs and be a vertical spacer and dump off guy (that I've seen). We're saying working on his back to the basket post up game is less beneficial to his team than being a respectable 3 point shooter. Guys move around on the court. You can space from the perimeter, be a roll man, space from the dunker's spot, and grab offensive rebounds all on the same play. Camping in the paint (sorry I'll paraphrase what you said) "Having the mindset of controlling the paint at all times" works in moments and in some matchups, and in others you'd rather be setting a screen on the perimeter and then popping out for a 3 if the opponent is playing an aggressive hedging coverage.

The whole "he's not providing any space" is exactly the point. He needs to show he's a threat from there to generate the space (and one screenshot caught mid action with no context doesn't actually prove he's not lol). To do that, he has to practice and take and make the shots. You have to earn the respect.

He already "controls the paint" on the defensive side of the court. He's trying to expand from being a one dimensional player to a multi-dimensional one, and as someone else pointed out, he's likely focusing on improving his skills in the paint, too.

Anthony Edwards wasn't the best three point shooter in the league last year, lolz.

He was 48th in the league in three point percentage, he just took over 10 per game.

I don’t see that being necessary when he’s so good at that other thing. Him being at the rim will ALWAYS provide spacing and a rebounding threat on a shot that if the teams don’t account for him on, he will shoot close to 100%.

You won’t convince me that him spending any time away from that trying to make teams respect him taking a 35% shot is smart. That also takes away from him being a rebound threat.

He made the most 3s in the NBA last year while shooting 48% from 3. You are literally the worst of this clique of responders with the dumbest posts.

He shot 39.5% from three last season, 48th best three point percentage in the league. You're an absolute mess, you changed handles and somehow became even worse.

You're giving your age (or mental age) away. The only people hyping Ant up like that are in middle school. Most 3s =/= best shooter. Get a grip and stop being disingenuous. Steph Curry may be an old head by NBA standards, but he was the best shooter in the league last year. 6% better than Ant on more attempts and tighter coverage. C'mon now bud.
