You talk about improvement?

Clingan has been starting of late.
Last night Portland lost at home by one point to a tough Chicago team.

Clingan started again.
Played 17 minutes.
Shot 7-13 from the floor.
Had 21 rebounds...Twenty One in 17 minutes!

Keep adjusting to physical play...keep working on his offensive skills and what
will Portland have? A lot!

Including 10 offensive rebounds! He had a rough stretch for a bit, but looks like he's found his groove again.

We all know the offense is a major work in progress (his fg% doesn't look too good because Portland has him shooting so many threes) but his defense and rebounding is elite. Clingan is 10th in the NBA in rebounds per game and second in offensive rebounds per game. Per 48 he's second in the NBA in rebounding and first in offensive rebounding. 9th in blocks per game, 4th in blocks per 48.

Castle will be fine but Wemby is a concern. I really hope his career isnt derailed by injury. Would love to see him fulfill his immense potential. I truly believe he has the potential to be the greatest player the game has ever seen.
Wemby is rail thin and very long. There is a lot of opportunity for damage to that rail thin longness!

DC just rolled his ankle in the first, hopefully not too serious, he was off to a good start

Another dominant performance by Clingan tonight. He had 22 points, 10 boards, and 4 assists in three quarters. I'm pissed the coach never played him the entire 4th quarter. He was on his way to a ridiculous stat line.
Wonder why that is, after such a great performance.

Clingan and Steph representing well for UConn while Drummond steady as always as a great rebounder. Cam and Martin also doing well in a reserve roles The rest of UConn players struggling or barely playing, McNeeley, Hawkins and AJ. Great to see 3 of the players from 23-24 team doing well. That was a great team and rivals 2003-2004 for talent.

McNeeley was starting to get PT before he got sick and missed 4 games. He’s supposed to be back Saturday so see if he gets PT then.

He got iso'd and put on an island trying to guard Curry way out past the three point line. Trailblazers went to a small ball lineup. It seems like they should have a counter to that where Clingan isn't the one trying to guard the best three point shooter ever.

Impressive for Clingan watching Bulls game:
Hands are really getting good, handled some tough passes, really starting to rip down rebounds
Court vision and passing. Made some really nice passes for assists.

Their counter was to put Timelord in there, who is more switchable. I was at the game and loved seeing Clingan's fire and love for the game. That can't be taught.

Taking him out and going smaller is the counter.

Sucks. But is what it is.

Newton had 38 and 9 last night in a G league game. He’s 4th in scoring and assists so far.
As the Courant said, he's too good for the G League. Surprised the Timberwolves don't at least give him a chance to contribute.

Tristen Newton has been balling with the Minnesota Timberwolves’ G League team, averaging a gaudy 25 points, 8.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds per. He hasn’t really gotten a shot in the NBA, but he’s proving he’s too good for the G League. Here’s hoping he doesn’t become a basketball Crash Davis.

Quality of hoops in the G league equal, better or less than high D1 college?

I would have to say better but I really don't have a good handle on that. It doesn't have the very high level future NBA players that DI has but how many DI players make the NBA every year? 30 or so? G League is the next level players which are better than most DI players. So overall I'd say the G League level of play is better. But that's just my guess.

Tristen just has to keep stacking great performances in the GLeague and stay ready, season only a month old and guys are dropping like flies with injuries, he might get another shot again this season. Collin Gillespie was doing 2 way & GLeague contracts for a few seasons before finally finding what looks like a stable situation in Phoenix. Tristen has to keep showing he can be efficient at the level he's at now because that's been one of his biggest issues.

The numbers he's putting up are eye popping. I can't imagine some team wouldn't give him a look if that keeps up.

I think his athleticism and efficiency were a bit lacking for NBA level, but man if he's figuring out how to put up those numbers consistently, someone is going to let him play.
