Wouldn't call him a great defender in space at all because he use to get routinely lost in pick and roll coverage, that Lakers vs Suns series from a few years ago when Anthony Davis got hurt pretty much ended the idea of him being a starter on a team with high stakes involved. Bron was visibly disgusted with him on several instances for his defense.
That doesn't seem all that fair. He was thrown onto a new team after the Cavs sat him for months looking for a trade. He also had a toe injury and only played 21 games with them.

bigs who are great defenders in space don't get benched because of their defense
His benching and lack of stable minutes since has a lot of factors, not simply because he gets lost sometimes on defense.

And he wasn’t prime on the Lakers anyways. Just look at his advanced stats defensively, he was a good defender and was one of the best who could switch onto guards.

Enjoyed my split screen of Clingan and Spencer tonight. Denver was ridiculous with 3s against Cam’s Grizzlies. Including Jokic from midcourt at the third quarter buzzer. But Cam orchestrated a nice comeback before Jamal Murray went on a run of contested threes to put it away. He’s playing a lot of point guard and quarterbacking things instead of pulling open shots when he can. Played the whole fourth quarter and finished 18 on 6-10 shooting, 4 assists and one unfortunate TO on a double deflection late.

Clingan knocked down a couple 3s and scoring on a couple lobs in the paint for another double double in a blowout win. Had 14-12-4. Covered Jackson for a couple possessions (so he could roam and help)

Called me shocked at how good Kneuppel has turned out. 28 last night on 7-11 3 pt shooting. He’s averaging almost 20 a game and shooting 44% from three, and easy front runner for ROY as of now. Scheyer had the best two players in America last year and could not with a NC.
I hate giving Duke guys credit, but he always reminded me of Cam Spencer - just three inches taller. Basically had all of Cam’s savviness as a freshman - compared to Cam as a fifth year senior. He just won’t get sped up and constantly has counters to whatever you do to stop him. I didn’t know he’d be Rookie of the Year good - but thought he’d be good.

Clingan with a modest but solid game: 8/8/2 dimes/2 blocks (2-4 from 3). Portland was up against the buzzsaw that is OKC and got....well, sliced and diced. But Clingan logged a +2 +/-.
Only positive plus/minus on the Blazers. Imagine playing the OKC defense with your starting point guard, your backup point guard, and his backup all out. 😱 Blazers were playing a two-way shooting guard at PG for much of the game.

.-.
Looks like Drummond got into a fist fight tonight, lots of ejections in Philly/Orlando

Edit: just squared off, no punches

Giannis was out last night so Andre got a lot of minutes, 28 off the bench

Finished with 6 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals. 2-6 from the field and 1-3 from three. I personally don’t care for the bad %, and am encouraged that he took so many shots

Shooting form looks a bit cleaner?

Decisive attack and a nice floater that isn’t the ugly push shot

Good to see him take that floater. That's something that he would just never do that drove me crazy.

Cam is playing beautiful basketball in this 2nd quarter vs the Pelicans, between his baskets and passing he's picked up the energy for the Grizzlies to cut a dbl digit deficit to 4 points. Had a filthy behind the back pass that got the entire bench out their seats.

.-.

Cam had a great no look on a fast break right after that too. More subtle, but an equally great pass. Had assists for layups on 4 straight possessions - after starting that spurt with a 15 foot pull up and a three.

Hawkins hit a 3 and had a couple nice passes - but missed his second 3 and was late on a couple close outs so his shift ended before he could build on his good start.

I have also developed an irrational hatred for Jaren Jackson Jr. Every time I watch, he plays like ass, and plays selfishly (3-12 FG this half). But mostly he misses passes to cam when he’s open - which is why I call it irrational.

Fun little stretch as Hawkins (3-3) and Spencer (2-2) hit 5 threes in a row before Hawk had one rattle out.

(Hawk’s third one banked in, but we’ll put that in parentheses, where unnecessary caveats go)
Cam inspiring Hawk

The other no look pass

Final day for this thread - Cam off to a great start with 2 threes from the top of the key and an assist to Edey.

But he’s the only one active I think. Clingan missed the game (they said illness, but he had a leg injury at the end of their last game so I wonder if that was it). Castle also still out, but listed as coming back Tuesday. Hawkins out with an illness too.
