UConn in the NBA Jan 2026

Assuming they make the playoffs Steph is going to see some wild stuff in the playoffs in regards to how he is defended because that jumper is absolutely cooked. Memphis gave a preview with how they put JJJ on him at times and just had him sag back off of him.

Steph is pretty much early stages Kemba.

Great attacker of the rim. Developing 3 point shot. But no in between game.

Has to work on that in between game to keep teams honest when he attacks.

And he didn’t play at all the last 5 minutes.

He wasn’t good tonight, though his D was (and Jaylen still made some insane shots over him).

These are the dog days of the season. Always a good time to shade someone in a slump, if you're so inclined.

Early against the Nets- but Spencer is playing a fantastic PG role early in this one. Five assists in 6 minutes. Doing it with well-weighted passes into small windows into traffic - sort of like Lionel Messi with a basketball. He front rimmed an open three or he might have had a perfect offensive start.

Nets may make adjustments and deny the passes - but we’ll see how his line finishes.

Edit: Martin and Spencer guarding each other for a stretch here. Martin with 8 quick points (2 threes and a 2) - those were without Spencer on him - a nice showing as he tries to get back in their rotation.

Martin ends first half with 11 (4-4 FG, 3-3 from 3). Spencer stayed on 5 assists, now has 6 points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3FG, 4-4 FT). In obviously more of a quarterback role than a shooters one in that half.

Cam came on with 4 minutes left and Memphis down 8.

He hit a 3, assisted a Coward 3, threw a hit-ahead for Aldama to tie it, then assisted another Coward 3.

11-0 run to turn a 98-90 deficit into a 101-98 lead with 10 seconds left.

He's got 12 points, 12 assists, 4 rebounds in 30 minutes. Our guy's a winner.

Averaging 8.3 assists to 2 turnovers per game over the last 12 games. So sick.

A winner-And a closer

Steph is a bit of a mess right now (1-8, 4 turnovers in first half). Hopefully he’ll start trending back in the right direction. Ever since that 3 game sweep against OKC, his numbers have fallen off a cliff and that sample size is getting larger.

He can’t hit a shot to save his life. He goes in seeking contact and it messes up his finishing, and as ever his decision making is pretty questionable. Thinking he should cede some on-ball stuff to Fox. It doesn’t seem to hurt the team too much but it is rough to watch.

Sounds like a dude that is over-using his strength verus establishing balance.

I think the Spurs are really missing Vassell's presence. One of the few guys on the team that could reliably hit the 3. With him out, opposing teams can collapse the paint and take away Castle's avenues for cutting to the hoop. Harper, who is similar to Castle in play style, has also struggled a ton since Vassell went out.

It’s all been discussed already but in summary of yesterday:

Castle: 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 7 turnovers on 2-11 FG (0-1 3P)

Clingan: 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks on 3-6 (0-2 3P)

Drummond: scoreless (0-2) and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes

Tyrese: 17 points, 3 rebounds on 6-8 (5-7 3P)

Cam in the same game: 12 points, 4 rebounds, 13 assists on 3-7 (1-3 3P)

Bouknight in the G League: 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists on 6-17 (2-8 3P)

Samson in the G League: 10 points, 6 rebounds on 4-5

said it before in a previous UConn NBA Month thread but I don't like the way Cam plays as a starter, things just seemed to flow better offensively for him off the bench

It's also obvious that since he broke out and is now on the scouting reports the defensive attention/coverage is way different now the past 2-3 weeks. Defenses are picking him way further out now bringing the ball up and he's not getting the clear openings on high ball screens that he was getting before. The offense runs better with him in because there's more space for others as a result and he'll move the ball, but he's gonna have to eventually adjust and figure out other ways to get his shot off.
