UConn in the NBA Jan 2026

I hope Dame has something left when he returns next season, even if he can be 70-75% of what he was that would help. Caleb Love has been a nice surprise but they still need a PG with some vision off of ball screens.

14 points in 9 minutes is good?
18/8/2 on 7/8 shooting at the half.

He's gonna be a cross between Rudy and Brook, but better than either.

Any of their PGs back would help. I think they are down all four right now in Dame, Jrue, Scoot and Blake Wesley. It’s honestly impressive they are even as good as they are.

Clingan still had a beast of a game, could have been slightly better if he hit FTs. Still he had 24-12-4 Castle played well but was on the losing end with 16-5-9 and only 2 TOs

Portland wins at San Antonio. Clingon was immense tonight. And Castle kept the Spurs in the game in the last five minutes, practically single-handedly. Maybe Houston took a shot on Newton because the other three guys are killing it right now. Zero risk especially since he has nothing left to prove in the G league.

Just need another guard/wing that can throw a lob besides Deni, they're leaving so many free points on the table not seeing DC wide open at the rim when they drive and draw help

How did I miss this, that's awesome. Considering how well the other three starters from the 2024 team are doing and how well he was playing in the G-League it makes sense. Plus Houston needs a PG badly.

Clingan's last 9 games --

12.7 points
11.4 rebounds
1 block
66% FG
54% 3P FG
At 48% from three since the beginning of December. Almost more importantly, defenders are starting to come out and challenge him pretty regularly, which pulls a rim protector away from the basket and opens up a ton of space for the guards and wings.

There are some Clingan shooting takes on this board that have aged about as well as milk and about as quickly also.

Clingan isn’t throwing up threes on his own. The coaching staff is encouraging him. And it’s paying off, people gotta come out and guard him like that recent DC post showed.

Clingan was 3-5 from three, but also 6-7 from two. The game before he was 0-3 on threes and 5-7 on twos. In his back to back 18 point games he was 2-4 and 1-3 on threes, 6-6 and 7-7 on twos. The threes are good when they’re mixed with twos

October: 39% of his FGs were threes. Averaged 9.5 PPG on 51% FG and 23.5% 3P

November: 34.5% of FGs were threes. 10.5 PPG on 49% FG and 26% 3P

December: 28% of FGs were threes. 11.7 PPG on 61.7% and 52% 3P. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that his best and most efficient scoring (on average) is when he’s focusing on twos and taking the good threes when they’re there

January is looking like the opposite. 36% of FGs are threes, 17.5 PPG on 63.6% and 37.5% 3P. But that’s only two games where he scored 24 points on 9-12 (3-5) and 11 points on 5-10 (0-3). Need more data here

There's one poster in particular that needs to eat some crow.
I claimed DC would be a better 3pt shooter than Steph in the NBA and was emphatically shot down by a few here. I hope they both continue to take a bunch of them. Shooting better will open up so much more for both of them..

The data is that he's become a multi-faceted offensive player who can punish a defense based upon what they're giving him – be it on a pick-and-pop, on the roll, with his high-post passing, posting switches and, most especially, offensive rebounding (he leads the league). His numbers in terms of whether he's shooting more or fewer 3s, will be more a reflection of what defenses are conceding rather than what he's imposing upon them (again with the exception of offensive rebounding).

He has not shown the ability to be a first option who bends the defense on his own. They're not going to try to dump him the ball on the block or have him orchestrate from the elbow one possession after another.

But he looks very much like a guy who'll spend a long time as an elite two-way center in the league – a force magnifier in every way – and his improvement curve is really, really encouraging.

Thank you for getting ahead of this. This was always the point.

Portland has a depleted roster, that was a great win. Spurs fans were giving Clingan praise.
