Bianchi being Bianchi...

UConn going broke a cautionary tale for UCF, USF and other Group of 5 schools

>>This is not a time for other programs in the American Athletic Conference to start casting stones outward at departing UConn and wondering how the financially decimated Huskies could possibly choose to leave the American for a league that doesn’t even have football.

No, this is a time for UCF, USF and the rest of the AAC to look inward and make sure that what has happened to UConn doesn’t happen to them. And don’t kid yourself, UCF fans. What happened to UConn could easily happen to UCF. Hell, it almost did four years ago when the Knights went 0-12.<<

LOL at comparing those directionals to us.
This guy's a total a..... hole, no mention of ESPN+ , or the extravagant travel costs for major UConn sports if we stayed in the AAC, only a lot of hate directed at us for leaving. The AAC right now reminds me of the old Big East after BC and Syracuse jumped ship.

Dave Benedict gave everyone a detailed message of Gross versus Net. That applies to each of the other 11 - maybe not Navy. Thematically, you aren’t getting $7m when you have to carry production costs etc. Then. This league requires more travel expense - in like 20 sports - than most any other. The Eleven made celebratory noise about the ESPN+ contract.

The Truth - even though Bianchi claims we are destitute - we had a solid path to greater dollars. They don’t.

What would we do if it was $14m? That’s a difference that would be a great conversation.

UConn’s financials are better shedding these clowns. Every last bit of criticism has been *fart noise*.

They won’t post when UConn ends up 11-12 mil w/o them.

Well... Part of that "Net" is the value of ESPN linear vs Fox linear, and Fox ratings have been poo.

If you get paid half the AAC contract (or even closer than that), for half the viewership - on a fledgling channel, you aren't really netting anything close to the value.

Getting 11-12 million from Fox would essentially approach what the AAC is getting in dollars/exposure from ESPN.

ESPN will never get kicked off their perch.

Memphis State grads can’t handle 8 digit math.

Go back and load the FedEx trucks.

That’s just about the silliest crap I’ve read on the Boneyard.

Linear dollars ?

No. Gross. You get paid $7m. Less you carry your own production costs. That’s an unknown. But we are in Connecticut with ESPN employees next to us. That’s a number less than $5m Net.

Big East Hoop is more. It just is. Ratings schmatings.

Memphis + Temple have done great. Better football better Fanbase. UConn Brand will be big in NYC & Northeast; irrefutably better. Money. Linear (?). Brand. Then our WBB will outdraw 9 of the 11 AAC & Be Worth more on TV.

State schools don’t “go broke”. Private schools do. They choose to characterize subsidies as it suits their needs and agenda .. be it the cost of repairing a slate roof to justify buying a new house or bailing on a sports program. It’s like McEnroe calling out sport program welfare when the real culprit is the billion in wages and benefits. It’s all welfare, just not the kind he likes.

And Fredrick Smith told his flock - go forth and preach the virtue of memphis state.

may our students never read, may the daquiari bar never run dry, may our ashtrays never fill

I met the Founder of Holiday Inn Corporation in Memphis on a project - Kemmons Wilson. Small family owned business that started putting hotel/motels in small towns. Memphis proud. That was a linear thing too. Atmosphere? Gosh it was Old South. He was nice to colored people in his employ. But it was a hugely deferential time.

I think I’m feeling the divergence in $ thought with our split.

It’s a wonderful thing to be on TV in Greater NY & NE. The Big East is a better deal than ESPN +. The ratings will rise. And our Womens brand is saved through the next 10 to transition: We don’t become LA Tech Lady whatever’s

Not football related: For those who follow women’s basketball much more than those of us just hoping they win and enhance our alma mater’s revenues, how’s the NNBE move potentially impact overall strength of schedule, recruiting, national perception, and revenue?@HuskyNan

Getting 1/7th, the tv revenue of the SEC and Big Ten and thinking you're going to survive that long term is insane. Especially when the 7 million really is less. Aresco was nuts to make that a 12 year deal. Up until that point i thought he had done a good job, but the 2nd contract was the litmus test and he failed. For that length of time with the production costs on the schools, he needed to get 10 million.

The bottom line is you have less margin for error in putting a quality product on the line in mens fb and bb. You have to be able to draw folks to the games in order to support the sports program both financially and in terms of making it part of the campus experience. Those ticket and out of pocket revenue dollars for G5 schools are much more important relatively than for the P5 schools. Coaching and A.D. hires are critical. Not to mention the proverbial facilities issues.

Dave Benedict did a few interviews & he was fairly clear. The $7m was significantly less when ESPN laid all the production costs on the University. He emphasized that point. We heard - immediately after Aresco Executed- that we suddenly had a big number that skewed the economic benefits.

Indy is a scary world. We are gonna have Weak November schedules. Maybe UConn Fanbase can enjoy a platform playing football against Holy Cross or Fordham the week before Turkey. That’s my view of BYU - who largely has Murderers Row the first five weeks of the schedule.

We make money in WBB. That has to be nurtured & protected through GA and into the next era. Almost as important as Football and as challenging.

lol suck it aac

The number the American Athletic Conference got, it’s a little misleading because the AAC is going to have to produce a lot of events, and that’s going to cost millions of dollars,” said Lulla, the former head of ABC Sports’ legal and business department and a lead counsel at IMG. “But
