-> The UConn football team has two periods during every preseason practice where the losing unit, offense or defense, has to run. So far, through six practices, it has been back and forth.

“You want to see that,” coach Jim Mora said after the defensive unit – full of newcomers – closed Tuesday’s practice with a win in the “gotta have it” period.

You don’t want to see it if it’s bad football, but when it’s good football, you want to see that. Just hyper-competitive,” Mora said. <-

StorrsCentral YouTube (free): Hear from Coach Mora, TE Alex Honig, LB Aaron Key, and K Chris Freeman following practice on 8.5.25!

If short on time or attention span > watch Mora!

Wow…Honig is quite impressive. Lot’s of positve energy…and it’s obvious he loves the program. TE group is going to be a strength this year.

It’s interesting to hear how important the return of Fagnano was to the skill players sticking around. Fagnano having an extra year of eligibility may have been the biggest move of the offseason..lol.

-> “One of the things we’re trying to find out out here and in the meetings is like, who steps forward, who steps up? And is it legitimate or is it hot air? And we’re identifying those guys,” Mora said. “Everyone on the team has a chance to be a leader. You can have 115 guys on the roster and every one of those guys can be a leader in their own way, and that’s really what you want. But yeah, you need some guys that everybody’s going to listen to and I think we’ve got some of those guys that were here.”

Mora tabbed cornerback D’Mon Brinson, linebacker Donovan Branch, running back Cam Edwards, Fagnano and tight end Alex Honig as some of the vocal leaders who’ve established themselves early on. <-
