UConn Football Class of 2025 > Early Signing Day Thread/Info (12/4/24>12/6/24)

It’s got to be brutal to be a 3 Star and below recruit these days. Such small classes.
I had the same thought on class size. I didn't even realize today was National signing day. That shows how important the transfer portal has become. I feel for these HS school kids because they aren't getting the attention they once did because the way to build a program now is through the portal with a few HS kids in development.

It blows my mind how Dabo can still have a job at Clemson by sticking to the good old fashioned he recruit and utilizing the portal.

Love to see the 6'3" DBs being signed. If you are that size and can cover the window for the opposing QB gets narrower.

Yes, the portal has taken much of the attention away from signing day, but the same number of kids are still being signed and getting scholarships. How can it be otherwise? Every time we lose a Jolly or a Carter, a P-4 school takes one less kid out of high school but we have to take one more. Or we steal a G-5 or FCS kid, and then this school needs one more high school player.

In fairness this is just the early signing window, national signing day is in feb

What's interesting is not all schools are focused on the portal. I heard the TCU coach yesterday said they are focused on HS kids and development with only a couple transfers sprinkled in. And, if you look at the top 10 recruiting classes on 247, the average class size is ~25. Syracuse is bringing in 34 kids, so they clearly won't be relying heavily on the portal this year compared to last year.

I think the way things are going to work is that for a school like UConn, we can use the portal to attract P4 kids who are not starting or G5/FCS kids that find what UConn offers attractive. And, there are plenty of top 30 QBs who will not start at their current school so you can find them like Evers and Roberson. And I like how UConn is bringing in many portal kids with multiple years of eligibility so you don't have massive turnover every year.

I believe that the portal on a net/net basis is a positive for UConn. This year it certainly was.

I would get nervous whenever i'd see a signed recruit who had an exclusive CAA/Patriot (+ maybe a service academy) offer list... and then UConn. To me it didn't feel good seeing a kid sign here in those circumstances, as it would seem like he did it cuz it was his only option to play top level ball.

I know this recruitment thing isn't a perfect science, and there are hidden gems in the shadows, but I am glad I am starting to see less of that. looking forward to seeing more strong G5 + P4's listed on these kids resumes.

Currently UConn seeing more success in the portal than recruiting high school kids.

He keeps his job because he won a National Championship and wins the ACC Championships on a yearly basis. He likes to build up his recruits and hasn't brought into the NIL as others have.

Probably only spending NIL $$ on transfers is my guess. Disqualifies us from getting any 4-5 star high schoolers

Those will become LB's.
I don't think so. I am skeptical about reported heights and weights of recruits with Bridges-Brooks, for example, listed from 6' to 6' 3" and his weight listed from 175 lbs to 195 lbs. If you look at his game pictures and videos, he looks lean and can maybe add 10 to 15 lbs. He seems to be more of a safety. And, Mora seems to want bigger LBs.

On Wednesday on Sirius-xm, Childers & Neuheusel addressed this term. Basically they said, face it, even though it's considered the early signing day, it's the real signing day. Because of the transfer portal, the signing day in February is an afterthought. Players of any real value will sign in December.

Annual Great Reshuffle certainly helps us because we get new cards to draw from the deck and improve our hand. At some point we will suffer the opposite effect with breakout players. I think the portal game, if played well, can keep you in the 40-80 ranking range. Once you start having major success with impact players, the vultures circle.

Tui-Brown came in around 200lbs. Took him a few years to make his current weight. But yeah Mora seemed to.like his lbs 230-335. And he is not the DC anymore.

What do we know about K'saan Farrar as QB. Is he decent?
They only recruited him because they thought he had a cool name.

In 2023: Led Green Run to a 12-1 record and a Virginia Class 5 Region A final appearance. Earned All-Beach Region honors with 3,086 passing yards, 36 TDs, 577 rushing yards, and 7 TDs.

This year his team is 13-1 losing last night in the Finals again. Not including last night’s stats he has thrown for 2,849 yards, 32 TDs, two INTs. Haven’t seen finals stats yet.
