They need to do something or else UConn woman's basketball as we know it will be gone. If Uconn remains with the rag tag leftover group they will no longer be able to recruit the best players and remain a national power. Geno will either move to a top school like Texas or retire. CD will probably consider the Rutgers job if it becomes vacant at the end of this year.

It is dreadful what the Big East Administrators did to destroy the conference over the past 10 years but it is gone now and UConn apparently can't get a bid to the ACC.

Uconn as an 'independant' in football would not be good, but think about what they could do as an independant in WBB. No more Seton Hall, Providence, etc. Geno has enough connections and Uconn has enough cache to create a really interesting schedule - problem of course is filling in the Jan/Feb schedule when teams are so tied up in conference games, but think of cherry picking home and homes with teams from each of the BCS conferences instead of playing those bad BE games.

Your crystal ball is self defeating. Your 1/2-empty glass is leaking and your disdain for the new Big East members could not be clearer.

Here's my crystal ball response to your crystal ball:

The new Big East is a coast-to-coast conference of schools not deemed worthy of conferences perceived as being better. They will likely play with a "chip on their shoulder" maintaining a respectable winning percentage against all comers.

Sooner or later, likely later in some parts of CT, people will recognize as will teevee that conference affiliation as an indicator of quality is nothing more than hype and illusion. Quality is as quality does.

The Big East has a tremendous opportunity here to show it can stand shoulder to shoulder and go head to head with any and all comers, could more of us but give them the time to do so.

Stand firm people.

We're in the midst of having to come to grips with what is important and what is not. We are grieving. Let us also take this opportunity to think clearly and to recognize the Big East is what we make it and not what the ACC may think of it.

You know what? This whole conference nonsense just doesn't matter to me anymore. Seriously. I was obsessed with it with every defection from the conference, worried about where UConn would land. But in view of yesterday's tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, this conference silliness is just not worth my time to worry about, obsess over or otherwise follow every twist and turn. What will happen is out of my control. I will continue to be a UConn fan, independent or part of a conference, whatever. As long as Geno and CD are coaching the team, there will be excellence and they will always compete for a national championship. Once they are gone, whether UConn is in a top conference or not, there will be questions on whether the level of excellence will remain. Had the Big East not imploded, that question will still be there. I just can't spend the energy on this anymore.

.-.
Currently UCONN doesn't have very many options so I think this new league idea is just what the doctor ordered. If I was a guessing man I would bet that the ACC will make an offer to both UCONN and Cincinnati in the very near future.

Sorry, you are dreaming. Being part of a second tier conference which may not even retain the Big East label, will be very detrimental. My glass is not half empty--it is totally empty. UConn woman's basketball, even with Geno, will not be able to maintain its ability to get the best recruits if they are in a rag tag conference. My guess is that if UConn doesn't get into a first tier conference or is part of the east-west power conference reported by Sporting News, that both Geno and CD will be gone (retired or another school) within the next few years.

Also wonder what SNY is going to do about the TV contract if all the BB schools withdraw from the Big East.

Really, icebear?

Well, as I'm still in a state of shock, and can't currently take much more negativity, I will here relent and say, ok, I give up. Yes, the BE and all its new members are rag tag, rejects and wannabees who never ever will be as good as Wake Forest, let alone Mississippi State, still less Iowa State, Northwestern, Purdue or Baylor, not to mention New Mexico or Vanderbilt or Washington State and/or the conferences wherein those power house elite college athletic programs are to be found.

So, in order not to be called delusional and mentally challenged at this time of grief, I agree that I have been all wrong in saying it is better to show some respect for the Big East and for what it must do to advance its interests and that UCONN can lead the way.

Henceforth, I will get onboard and start bashing the Big East and begging for exit elsewhere, anywhere, and get myself back into the safe, sane and oh so secure BY in crowd.

:-/

I hadn't heard that Mr. Marinatto has an OCD condition. Maybe that's why he's posting on the Boneyard.

.-.
Yes, really. Pretty much everyone has said the same thing to you.

I'm onboard. The BE, and all its members are rag tag low life colleges who will never again attract any recruits. I mean, why play against , say, SMU, when you can play Northwestern or Fessu?

No one wants to be a mid major. Everyone wants to be BiGer because bigger is a lot better. I'm like everyone else. I'm not watching Houston v Uconn when I can, instead watch Minnesota v Nebraska or West Va v Oklahoma. Those are huge, tradition-laden rivalries, don't you know, that are of great interest here in New England.

I hate the Big East and all its new members because they are bad, bad, bad and little, little, little.

How'd I do, icebear? Am I one of the in crowd now?

:-0

>> I have the Name for this new "conference":

♦ [Pick the ones that suit you the best] -- The name of the:

non-competitive / talented - outlandish / creative - scattered / nation-wide - doomed / promising -- conference should be:

The All-America Conference
Notice that in all alphabetical listings this would come first.
-OR- we could be the first conference named after a corporate sponsor.
The Alpo Dog-Food Conference

And, I say bring back the Weed Eater Bowl that would pit the # 1 team from our conference, assume UCONN, against the # 22 team from the ACC in a likely mismatch. Game to be held annually on December umpteen in Orono ME.

Is that the style, icebear?

Why would you assume UCONN?

jplotinus: Don't go away mad. Just go away.

Thanks.

Wait. I've joined in on bashing the Big East. I'm just tryin' to fit in, be normal, go along with what passes for normal around here. Why are you still shunning me, making me feel awful and strange and unwanted and such like?

I've dutifully posted up at least 3 posts in a row that attempt to mirror the orthodox group think around here and you post up a shunning message.

Sheesh :-(

.-.
Why would you assume UCONN?

I would assume UCONN because UCONN is not like the other rag tag nonentities in the new Big East. Instead UCONN is worthy of the green grass conferences that everybody says and knows for sure are better than any of the walking wounded who are coming into the stupid, dumb Big East that none of us right thinking good people want anything to do with.

That's why.

By the way, are there any good rumors out there that have us going to the Pac42?

I sure do want out of the Big East.

Take a reality pill!!!!

What the he ll is the matter with you? Every quality team that was in the Big East has left or is about to leave. UCONN needs to look at other options. Forming another league with Cincinnati is an option!

I've taken the pill. No euphoria, but there is a medicinal effect. I'm better now. :-)

Yes, the normal thing to say is "the big east is trash." The hope is UCONN will receive an invite to the ACC by noon tomorrow, at the latest.

It is not up to fans to try to refrain from bad mouthing the big east unless and until the big east engages in a concerted effort to show us that they have a plan that will work. Willy nilly conference additions from all over the place won't satisfy us. It is also up to UCONN admins to signal us their intention. They have made it clear they have no faith in the big east and don't want to be there. Nevermind that it might be counter productive to getting an invite to wherever they think is better. They have let it be known they are anxious to bail out and we can only take our cue from the manner in which they are comporting themselves.

Anyone who seeks to look for a big east silver lining here is barking up the wrong tree.

I ain't doing that no more. I'm done being nuts.

The meds work.

The conference realignment has been really bad for UConn Men's Basketball but it is much worse for the women...
Awful travel schedule (expensive too!) to play teams that are not even close to being competitive.

.-.
I think Uconn's best bet would be to join the Catholic 7 in all sports and see if they can join the MAC for football. If not, maybe form a football league with Army, UMass, Navy, Temple (which could also join the basketball league), Cincy and a few others. Preserves the BB teams and longstanding rivalries. Ultimately I think there will be 4 superconference. The ACC will get poached big time and UConn doesn't need to go through this twice.
