No one posted anything so...

Kind of a ragged game - about what you might expect missing 2 out of our 3 best players. The 4th quarter wasn't stellar, but they got thru the game and no one else got injured. Hopefully Blanca and Sarah can get well soon.

Azzi and Ash had off shooting nights, but Serah, KK and Allie were really efficient. Nice to see Allie get the start again. My most improved player this year IMHO. Glad to be done with this game. Certainly didn't cover the oddsmakers MOV, but given all we are missing... solid effort for the most part.

Also gave others a chance to really play more and play a bigger role. Nice to see what Kelis looks like with expanded minutes...

I could be mistaken but I don't remember any other announcers that seemed to talk about fouls so much, especially bail out fouls. And they spoke a couple of times about how the Butler coach was telling the refs about missed calls against his team and the next thing you know, they would get calls in their favor.
The game to me was like a blur. All were playing good but with many of the starters being subbed for so often (it seems), it was hard for those on the court to stay in rhythm, both on offense and defense.
A very interesting game.

Spent considerable time looking at Butler's offense. 4 spread across the perimeter and one doing what I couldn't figure out. Not a lot of motion in their game. Spent a lot of time looking at 2 UConn guards and so glad we have them. So solid, all go, and so fearless. Who? Ash and K9. Ash has a year on her teammate, but K9 is coming on fast.

Radio post-game.
Debbie: What did you want to see/what get accomplished?

CD: First, we want to win. Lots of different lineups out there. Interesting to see that. wanted to do a good job with pressure force turnovers and did that. Run our offense. etc.

Defense swarm?

We worked on traps in practice before game (sometimes that's the kiss of death lol) Everybody had better sense of how we wanted to do it. Can get better.

Offense?

Butler took away three, deep coverage on ball screens, so good mid-range game. Second half better at putting the bal on the floor and scoring.

What's good about Butler?
Coach does a really good job. Run things similar to us. Offense, take five out, pull our big guys out. Caught us on back door cuts a couple of times, but when the game was in hand. Need to get better.

Blanca?

Improved. Doing som e stuff. No date on return

Pink game impact?

Great day. Honor Kay Yow. Gives us an opportunity to raise awareness.

CD is done with the snow and ice. lol

Geno called the dogs off early or Butler might have had 40 turnovers and Uconn might have had 20+ steals. Uconn had 'only' 20 assists, 14, steals, and 23 forced turnovers all below their season averages, but not surprising with Sarah (StatStuffer) Strong and her 60% shooting on the bench and a big early lead. Interesting stat - Butler had 16 assists on 19 baskets, lot of defensive breakdowns in the second half!

Didn't like Heckel getting 4 PF in 23 minutes - she seems to get one or two each game that are 'silly' - love the aggression, hope she can rein in the fouls.

Like Serah asserting herself more offensively.

Good win, streak to 41, streak of 25 point wins now at a record 20, home to Creighton on Wed, hopefully with a 3 players back in the line-up.

No recognition from the announcers on so many things, such as Azzi not playing in the 4th QTR; the Butler 'run" with the bottom of our bench playing the bulk of the 4th; the foul call in the 3rd when Azzi's shot from 15 ft was an airball short of the basket and a foul was called but on a replay from a terrible which showed nothing they failed to acknowledge that she probably was fouled with the shot being so bad.
Another item; I think I saw Caroline on the bench at the beginning of the game and through most if not all of the 1st Qtr but not after that. For anybody who was at the game is that correct?

Loved the bail out foul , Azzi gets slapped on the wrist refs are bailing her out play by play was awful

From what I've observed, Sarah looked to be a bit tired during these past few games........it's not just about how many minutes a player plays, it's about how hard they play during those minutes.......as the player who the offense is centered around and all of the contact she gives/takes, it's not surprising that she may have hit a bit of a wall......I think Azzi has also gone through this, and that may be a reason for her three-point shooting woes in the past few weeks.......

A little elaboration. Sitting out was to, hopefully, prevent a small issue from becoming a big one

They played as well as I'd hoped missing both Sarah and Blanca. I thought there was a real chance that the offense would look a little lost without Sarah -- everything goes through her. Allie had a nice game; Ash was more aggressive on offense; Jana 11 rebounds. The trapping near the half-court line was really good, as was the team defense in general.

In addition to Sarah having the game off, Azzi got a lot of rest. Ash was in for 36 minutes, Allie for 31, and Jana got a good look with 20 minutes. That will all do them some good in a month-plus.

And it is also not just minutes in games, but 2 hour practices most days, plus weight room/training program, etc. And compared to a game like Butler, the days without games are longer and harder and more intense.

Kelis goes to the hoop often and with zippo fear. Sometimes the shot itself is contested....sometimes not...but it's pretty certain to be taken.

Her outside game? No shooting technique expert here but her form looks good to me. I'm not sure but I don't think I have ever seen one actually go in. I find myself in a huge snit when she misses...I very...VERY...much want to see her swish one. Go Kelis!

I am hoping to see next year Kelis in the regular rotation as a point....behind KK and K9. We know that several other players...notably Sarah ...can do point guard things...but I anticipate significant rotation minutes off the bench for Kelis.
With Azzie leaving I am hopeful that guard Jovana can focus on her shooting when she is in the game....though if she passes to Kelis and Kelils swishes it I'' be OK with that too.

Just checked the season stats: If I am reading them correctly...Kelis has played in 21 games....taken 7 treys...and has hit....well...zero. Go Kelis !

Kelis looks to score first and pass second and that has to evolve for her to be a true PG.

Here are a couple of observations from someone who watched the game in person:
  • Kelis Fisher is amazingly fast when she is rushing the ball up the court. I thought she was at top speed on her first scoring play and then she shifted into high gear and went even faster. It reminded me of the Jefferson Starship seen in Hartford and Storrs in the 2014-2016 era.
  • Also, Kelis's patented teardrop shot from the side is extremely accurate -- I'm not sure I've ever seen her miss one of those, and she hit two of them today. It is not an easy shot at all, and I would think it is very difficult to defend if the defender also has to worry about her going all the way to the rim.
  • I thought Ashlynn was the best rebounding guard on the team, but I am coming to think that K9 is just as skilled at that. Not to mention that Azzi had a few contested rebounds against the Trees from Knoxville last Sunday. All three of them get rebounds at both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. And Kelis had three tough rebounds in limited minutes in today's game. Rebounds by guards are an important part of UConn's game, apparently.
  • Jana again had an outstanding rebounding game with 11 rebounds. But if she loses out in minutes next year to Big O or to a 4-guard lineup, it will probably be because she has so much trouble finishing near the rim. She missed a few more makeable 2-foot shoots in today's game.

A decent workman like game with contributions from every one. Another win, one step closer to the ultimate object, the HOLY GRAIL NCAA National Championship NO. 13. GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!
