Pitt? we would get destroyyyyyyed.
But I did ask for a P4 Team - ok you talked me into it.
Oh really? The same Pitt team who lost to Virgina who won 3 games in the ACC and who only beat Cal by 2 pts who won 2 games in the ACC? Are you talking about the same UConn team who lost to Syracuse by 7pts at Syracuse, the Syracuse team that just beat #6 ranked Miami?

Best opponent options are regionally close schools like Rutgers, ACC programs we can beat like UNC, or brand name G5s like JMU or Memphis.

Is the big 10 short bowl eligible teams?

They must be since they have a tie-in with the GameAbove Sports Bowl in Detroit and multiple predictions have UConn paired up for that bowl with a MAC team (they have the other tie-in to that bowl).

Once Michigan St (5-7) lost this weekend to Rutgers it left a vacancy.

Exactly.

College football, with the exception of maybe the top 8 or so schools, is all about matchups.

Would Pitt be favored? Yes.
Have we played multiple teams already this year that are as good or even better than Pitt? Also yes...

Even if Pitt does beat is, I'd rather play them being a Northeast school than play a school from across the country. I know Pitt is a haul from us, but still Northeast. I'd like to build some Northeast rivalries.

Despite what ACC fans write on their boards, the presidents of those universities are the only opinions that matters, and they have resoundingly said no and shut the door to us.
Have heard it isn't the presidents who matter. It is the AD's. That said, AD's and presidents change jobs and retire all the time. So I would not assume the landscape is constant. Shalala is long gone. So is the AD at BC who was so notorious. Things change.

Good post. I just do not understand those who want a cupcake opponent rather than a challenge.

I hear ya mate, I do, but they didn't care about academics when they took UL over us. Memphis is worse than UL academically, but they are having better success in footbal, and that's all they care aboutl. Despite what ACC fans write on their boards, the presidents of those universities are the only opinions that matters, and they have resoundingly said no and shut the door to us. We could beat the top ACC team this year, and it wouldn't change our fate one iota.
Unless, of course, those are the ACC presidents posting on their boards... what? It could happen.

I said it this weekend to my kids that we may have all kind of mixed feelings about the ACC, and I’m sure they have the same feelings towards UConn.

But in terms of us joining that conference, even during a period where the conference looks to be in decline, it is hand meet glove for both of us.

Yeah, I was just making a joke. The ACC has had plenty of opportunity to add us and has chosen not to invite us despite the fact that we are a logical addition to the conference. I don't expect that to change unless there are significant departures from the conference. At that point we have to evaluate if it's in our best interest.

On the other hand, we're still hearing rumblings about the possibility of a big 12 invite. We've all been through that dance before. I've got a healthy skepticism about that as well.

Given all the fits and starts we've had over the years, I'll believe that we are joining a P5 conference when they are painting the logo on the floor at Gampel.

Pinstripe is easily the best bowl for us attendance and program wise.

Our goal should be consistently challenge BC and the fruit as the best program in the Northeast. It’s achievable and means something.

Any chance of getting Murkowski back for a bowl game? For that matter, everyone who is banged up?
